South Burnett’s Lee Powell came home with a bronze medal from the recent Multi Disability Lawn Bowls State Championships in Brisbane.
Lee, who is supported by South Burnett Community Services (SBCS), and his pairs partner Bruce Smallburn won a bronze medal in the Men’s Pairs competition.
SBCS team leader Leesa Osborne said lawn bowls was much more than a sport for Lee … it was a way to challenge himself, connect with others and build a sense of belonging.
She said Lee had also forged several meaningful friendships with fellow competitors who shared his passion for the sport.
“One fellow bowler has been particularly impressed by Lee’s commitment and potential, offering to coach and mentor him in the future,” Leesa said.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Lee to continue developing his skills.”
Bowls Queensland has run the Multi-Disability State Championships since 2011.
This year they were held from August 3-6.
