South Burnett Regional Council is planning to survey and reline all the region’s sewer systems over the next eight months.

On Monday, Council announced it will start a three-phase program on August 7 to ensure the long-term sustainability and efficiency of the South Burnett’s sewerage infrastructure.

Contractors will begin the first phase by using CCTV robots to inspect all the region’s sewers.

As part of this work, the sewers will also be cleaned to remove obstacles such as tree roots.

The CCTV information will allow Council staff to assess serviceability and structural conditions, and identify critical sections that require relining.

In the second phase, PVC liners will be installed in sewer systems to extend their life.

Relining will also involve the installation of PVC lines to the house connection junctions into the sewer.

This will be followed by a final phase which will involve relining sewer manholes.

CCTV works will begin in Wondai, then carry on to Murgon, Blackbutt, Nanango and Kingaroy.

Relining will begin approximately 2-3 weeks after the CCTV scans have been completed in each town.

The program is expected to be completed by March 2020.

Affected customers will be notified when works are occurring in their area and access to manholes on customer properties will be necessary.
