A 32-year-old Nanango man has been charged with multiple offences following a helicopter chase – and a one kilometre swim – on Friday night.

A police spokesman said about 10:00pm, the Polair helicopter was tracking a black Audi – alleged to be stolen –  in the Bray Park and Petrie areas, north of Brisbane.

Police on the ground deployed two tyre deflation devices along Samsonvale Road at Bray Park in a bid to stop the vehicle.

However, the Audi continued on to Gympie Road before coming to a stop near Wyllie Park at Petrie.

Police allege the male occupant then fled on foot towards the North Pine River where he swam about a kilometre downstream before surrendering to police.

A 25-year-old Murrumba Downs woman was arrested where the Audi was abandoned.

Police allegedly located a firearm with the vehicle.

The Nanango man has been charged with three counts of stealing as well as burglary, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.

The Murrumba Downs woman has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and drug possession.

She will appear in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on November 26.
