The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding a "Seniors Having A Ball" exercise class from 8:30am to 9:30am this morning. The program is designed to address the issues that many have with ageing and it's not just for seniors! It provides light exercise to keep the heart and joints moving, improving coordination and mobility. It also provides a beginner platform to start any fitness activity on. Indoor Bowls & Cards Day - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Senior Citizens Club will be hosting indoor bowls and cards (500) competitions at its centre on the corner of Avoca and Kingaroy Streets, Kingaroy between 9:00am and 4:00pm today. The Sister Dolores Carroll Training Centre at St Mary's Catholic College at 10 Kent Street in Kingaroy will be transforming into a "Man's Cave" between 6:30pm and 10:00pm tonight. Qualified instructors will be demonstrating the use of all the equipment in the centre - great stuff like lathes, drills etc - and if you're a man interested in restoring or manufacturing wood or metal products and socialising with other men who have similar interests, then this could be the place for you! Women's teams will play from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, and men's teams from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Playing fees are $2 and spectators are very welcome!

Graham House Community Garden - Murgon
The Graham House Community Garden group will be meeting at the Graham House Community Centre at 21 Taylor Street East in Murgon from 10:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Christian Music Workshops - Kingaroy
Christian music group "Endless Praise" will be holding free workshops at Kingaroy State High School from 3:30pm this afternoon for interested local residents. The group has been brought to the South Burnett by the Kingaroy Seventh-day Adventist Church, and the workshops will be held in the Kingaroy SHS School Assembly Hall. They will cover vocals, how to breathe/sing/harmonize/warm-up and have confidence on stage, and how to lead a praise and worship team. There will also be separate workshops for boys and girls talking about bullying, body image, addictions, social media and identity. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Saturday Rugby League - Nanango, Wondai and Murgon
Rugby league fans will have a choice of two A-grade matches in Murgon and Wondai today, weather permitting, while junior games will be running in Nanango, Murgon and Wondai. In Nanango, the U6s will hit Fred Kassulke Oval at 9:00am, followed by the U8s at 10:00am, the U10s at 11:00am, the U12s at 12:20pm and the U14s - who'll be playing the Cherbourg Hornets U14s - at 1:20pm. At the Wondai Sportsgrounds, junior games will start at 1:00pm with the U14s, followed by the U16s at 2:00pm, and then an A-grade clash between the Wondai Wolves and Cherbourg Hornets at 3:00pm. Finally, at the Murgon Sportsgrounds, the U6s and U8s Mustangs will play the Hornets at 8:30am, folowed by the U10s at 9:30am; the U12s at 11:00am; and U14s match between the Mustangs and Chinchilla at noon, an U18s match between South Burnett and Brothers at 1:00pm, and then the A-grade match of the day between Murgon's Mustangs and Kingaroy's Red Ants at 3:00pm. Canteens will be operating at all three venues and spectators are very welcome!

Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
Round 9 of the 2016 South Burnett Football League competition will be played entirely at Kingaroy's Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street today in what promises to be a derby of non-stop soccer action. Matches will kick off at noon with the 2nd Division games: Gunners v Nanango, followed at 1:40pm by Wests v Barambah. These will be followed by two Women's Division matches: Wests v Barambah at 3:15pm, then Gunners v Nanango at 4:30pm. After this, Wests will play Barambah in 1st Division at 5:45pm, followed by Gunners v Nanango at 7:30pm. A canteen and sausage sizzle will be running all day, and spectators are very welcome! Note: Junior soccer matches which were planned to have been held at the Nanango Soccer Fields today have been set back for a week and will now be held on June 11. This means all junior players (and their parents) can have a bye today.

Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints mens and womens sides will be playing at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today - and it'll be a special day, too. It's the Saints' annual Heritage Round when they discard their usual uniforms and dress up as the Jets in honour of the region's first AFL team. Today, the women's side will play a combined Coolaroo/Warwick side at 1:00pm, and they'll be followed by the Saints men's side playing against the Chinchilla Suns at 2:50pm. A bar and canteen will be in operation and spectators are very welcome! Note: Today's matches will be the last at-home AFL games for awhile. Next week will be a Rep weekend; the week after, both Saints teams will have a bye; and the week after that they'll be playing away. The next home game will be on July 2, when both sides play Goondiwindi the final first round of this year's competition.

Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 7:30pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Mystique and Carmel Green (from Ronnie And The Ramblers) and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a big Lucky Door draw. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). 2016 Nanango Heritage Ride
The South Burnett Endurance Riders Association will be holding their annual Nanango Heritage Ride today. This year's ride will offer three courses - a 20km Intro, a 40km Intermediate, and an 80km Open - and the event is open to all riders with horses that have complete Horse Health declarations and current Hendra Vaccination certificates, plus the $40 to $120 ride fees that apply (depending on the length of trail chosen). Nominations will open at the Association's grounds on Racecourse Road south of Nanango at 10:00am this morning, and this will be followed by a pre-ride talk at 12:30pm. After this, the rides will kick off between 2:00pm and 3:30pm, and riders will have until 1:00am to complete their chosen course. Saturday Rugby League - Nanango
League fans who aren't interested in the Central Division Carnival being held in Kingaroy this weekend (see entry elsewhere on this page) should head to Fred Kassulke Oval in Nanango for a fix of local senior league action. At 1:30pm the U18 South Burnett White side will play the Wattles, and they'll be followed at 3:00pm by an A-grade clash between the Nanango Stags and Cherbourg Hornets. The A-grade clash should be a particularly interesting game. The Stags have been defeated by the Hornets every time the teams have met this season, but under the watchful eye of coach Spud Jones they've also been steadily improving. So will today's clash wind up as another triumph for Hornets, or will it be the match where the Stags finally get the better of their top-of-the-table rivals? If you're on the grounds you'll be the first to find out! A bar and canteen will be operating on site and spectators are very welcome.

Wondai Sprints
The second (and final) day of the inaugural, weekend-long Wondai Sprints sprint car races will be held at the Wondai Industrial Estate off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD today. Race time trials will be held from 9:00am to 3:00pm today, and there'll also be a Show and Shine held on the sports oval adjacent to the racetrack, with judging take place between 9:00am and 12:30pm and trophy presentations at 1:00pm. A hundred entrants have nominated for the Sprints in classes including historic, touring cars, sports sedans, racing cars and special interest, and food and drink will be available in the grounds. Chemical Application For Agriculture Workshop - Mondure
The first day of a one and a half day "Chemical Application For Agriculture" workshop will be held at Mondure Hall from 8:00am today. The workshop - which is being presented by TAFE and organised by BIEDO - is designed for experienced and semi-experienced farmers, growers, weed controllers and other users of agricultural chemicals, and is a required course to obtain a licence to become a commercial chemical sprayer. It will cover weed control; handling and storage of chemicals; and preparation and application of chemicals. Successful graduates will receive a Statement of Attainment and a wallet-sized competency card. Eligible applicants can do the workshop for $56.25, but ineligible applicants will face a $475 course fee. Rugby league fans will have two A-grade games to look forward to today, and if they're prepared to drive they have a chance of seeing both of them. In Cherbourg, the action will kick off early at Jack O'Chin Oval, with the U6s/U8s playing at 10:00am; U10s at 11:00am; U12s at noon; and U16s at 1:00pm. This will be followed by an A-grade clash between the Hornets and the Murgon Mustangs at 2:00pm. Meanwhile in Kingaroy, the junior Red Ants will play the Murgon Mustangs at T.J. Winter School Vacation
Today is the first day of the Winter School Vacation for children attending State schools, and they won't be required to return to class until Monday, July 11. In the South Burnett, Taabinga State School in Kingaroy and the South Burnett PCYC in Murgon will both be running school vacation centres between 7:00am and 6:00pm Mondays to Fridays over the next two weeks to provide holiday activities for children ranging from Prep to Year 7. Motorists will also be able to drive at normal speeds past schools for the next few weeks, too.

Reserve Forces Day - Wondai
Today is Reserve Forces Day, which commemorates the two million-plus Australian men and women who've served in the ranks of the Army, Navy and Air Force Reserve since 1948, as well as the many thousands who served in the militia and other volunteer formations in the years prior to that. Wondai will be marking the event with a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph outside the former Wondai Shire Council chambers in Mackenzie Street at 10:00am, and then a parade which will march along Pring and Bramston Streets into Mackenzie Street, and then to Coronation Park at 11:00am. The Parade is open to anyone who served in the CMF or in the reserves of any of the three Service Arms at any time, as well as any Regulars or Nasho’s (naturally, spectators are encouraged to come along and wave the flag to show their support). After this there will be a Recognition Service in Coronation Park, before the event concludes with a Beating Retreat ceremony held on the roadway fronting the Cenotaph. Everyone will then be invited to the nearby Wondai Diggers Club for refreshments. Note: Wondai is the smallest centre in Australia to hold a Reserve Forces Day parade, but it's always well supported. The South Burnett Computer Users Group will be holding their fortnightly meeting from 10:00am today at the Orana Drop-In Centre at MacDiarmid Street in Kingaroy. The SBCUG is a not-for-profit group that aims to help seniors get the most from their computers. Beginners through to more advanced users are catered for with demonstrations and practical lessons. The Australian Hearing Bus will be visiting the South Burnett today to offer residents free hearing checks. Roughly 60% of Australians aged 60 or older have some level of hearing loss, and bus staff can test for this and offer advice on the next step, if necessary. POSTPONED: The South Burnett Regional Council, Nanango's Heritage Community Branch, Stanwell Corporation and BIEDO will be holding a Community Funding Information Night at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. All four groups will be providing information about the various types of funding and grants that are available for local not-for-profit groups, as well as the eligibility requirements that apply.
