Blackbutt’s Butt Art Gallery will be holding a two-day fundraiser on June 25 and 26, but it won’t be at the Gallery.

Instead, Butt Art will be transforming the nearby Blackbutt Memorial Hall for a Family Art and Fun Wiikend featuring a Nintendo Wii competition along with art displays and demonstrations.

Butt Art Treasurer Val McGrath said the group hope to introduce the Timbertowns’ younger generation to art by combining the weekend event with gaming.

“Nintendo Wii is something a lot of people are into and can do together,” Val said.

“It’s a lot of fun and it’s something we’re sure lots of children will enjoy.”

Children will also be able to take part in a number of art activities that will run during the event, including painting and crayon drawing, thanks to sponsorship from the South Burnett RADF committee who are providing art supplies.

There’ll also be a karaoke competition in the Hall on the Saturday night for extra fun.

Entry to the Family Art and Fun Wiikend is free but there’ll be a $5 fee to register for the Wii competition.

Intending players can register in advance by phoning Val on 0437-474-954 or the gallery on (07) 4170-0221. Registrations will also be taken on site from 8:30am on Saturday, June 25.

Food and drinks will be available at the Hall throughout the weekend, along with a licensed bar on Saturday night and raffles.

Val said fundraising days were vital to keep the art gallery alive.

“It’s important we get the community involved,” she said.

“Butt Art is an outlet for our local artists as well as other artists from across the region, and it’s also a very good tourist attraction for the town.”
