Wondai Sprints - Wondai

The first day of the inaugural, weekend-long Wondai Sprints sprint car races will be held at the Wondai Industrial Estate off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD today. Race time trials will be held from 9:00am to 4:30pm, and there'll be an evening entertainment program from Mr Q at 6:00pm (see entry elsewhere on this page). A hundred entrants have nominated for the Sprints in classes including historic, touring cars, sports sedans, racing cars and special interest, and food and drink will be available in the grounds too. A one-day pass for spectators is $15 (or $25 for both days), but under 14s can get in for free. You can read more about the Wondai Sprints on our website.
Central Division Carnival - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Rugby League Football Club will be hosting the first day of a two-day Central Division Carnival at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. The Carnival is a new one for the Division (which encompasses four regions), and participants will be competing for selection in a Central Division team that will go on to compete at a State Carnival. The Red Ants will be hosting U13, U14 and U16 boys as well as U14 and U16 girls rep teams from all across Central Division this weekend. And with 500 players plus staff, parents, friends and supporters taking part, thousands of visitors are expected to attend during the course of the weekend.
Mr Q Live Show With Guest Artists - Wondai
If you're attending the inaugural Wondai Sprints today (see entry elsewhere on this page), hang around after sunset and you can enjoy the Mr Q Live Show With Guest Artists. They'll be playing at the corner of the Bunya Highway and Burrows Street from 6:00pm to 10:30pm and it promises to be a great night out.
Team Penning Fundraiser - Nanango
A team penning fundraiser will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from 8:00am to 4:00pm today. The event will assist Samantha Lee and Kaitlin Elliot's India expedition - organised through their school - to complete a community project in Northwest India. If you're a team penning fan, you'll be able to watch some great teams of horseriders penning cattle in the arena, and all in a very good cause! A full canteen will be running with egg and bacon burgers, cakes, tea and coffee, hamburgers and drinks available throughout the day, too. Everyone is welcome!
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282
2016 Nanango Heritage Ride
The South Burnett Endurance Riders Association will be holding their annual Nanango Heritage Ride today. This year's ride will offer three courses - a 20km Intro, a 40km Intermediate, and an 80km Open - and the event is open to all riders with horses that have complete Horse Health declarations and current Hendra Vaccination certificates, plus the $40 to $120 ride fees that apply (depending on the length of trail chosen). Nominations will open at the Association's grounds on Racecourse Road south of Nanango at 10:00am this morning, and this will be followed by a pre-ride talk at 12:30pm. After this, the rides will kick off between 2:00pm and 3:30pm, and riders will have until 1:00am to complete their chosen course. The Ride is open to both QERA members and non-members, and you can obtain more details by phoning Colleen on 0438-467-970 or through the QERA website.
Kumbia Town Garage Sales
Kumbia will be having a Town Garage Sale today, and the Kumbia QCWA in Bell Street will be running a craft stall in their grounds and offering morning teas and lunches if you get hungry while looking over the various garage sales running at local houses. The QCWA will also be hosting some locals running car boot sales. More details? Maps? Phone Margaret on 0438-332-031.
Saturday Rugby League - Nanango
League fans who aren't interested in the Central Division Carnival being held in Kingaroy this weekend (see entry elsewhere on this page) should head to Fred Kassulke Oval in Nanango for a fix of local senior league action. At 1:30pm the U18 South Burnett White side will play the Wattles, and they'll be followed at 3:00pm by an A-grade clash between the Nanango Stags and Cherbourg Hornets. The A-grade clash should be a particularly interesting game. The Stags have been defeated by the Hornets every time the teams have met this season, but under the watchful eye of coach Spud Jones they've also been steadily improving. So will today's clash wind up as another triumph for Hornets, or will it be the match where the Stags finally get the better of their top-of-the-table rivals? If you're on the grounds you'll be the first to find out! A bar and canteen will be operating on site and spectators are very welcome.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Nanango Stamp Club Meeting
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its second Saturday monthly meeting at Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards this morning, followed by lunch for those who'd like to stay on for a bite afterwards. The club is the South Burnett's sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in our region. It meets on the second Saturday morning of each month, and anyone interested in stamp collecting is very welcome to come along for a fun morning out with fellow collectors. More details?
