Queensland Week Family Fun Day & Concert - Blackbutt

Queensland Day falls on Monday, but you can get a head start on celebrating what makes the Sunshine State great if you get along to the Blackbutt Showgrounds at the end of Hart Street in Blackbutt today. At 8:00am you can start the day with a hearty - and completely free - Community Breakfast, which will be accompanied with live music from Ausphonic. Then you can shop 'til you drop for the next four hours at a Gigantic Car Boot Sale that will feature everything imaginable - including genuine antiques - along with a free jumping castle and face-painting for children (Josh Arnold will also be in Showgrounds filming the Blackbutt-Benarkin Song this morning). Then from Noon to 2:00pm, Gold Coast artist Glennys Briggs will be running a $25 art workshop in Nukku Nook (bookings for this are essential - phone 0417-634-981). The biggest action of the day, though, will occur at 6:00pm when acclaimed Queensland country music artist Chad Morgan accompanied by The Muirs will take to the Showgrounds' stage for a great $10 per head evening concert with a cash bar. Today's events are sponsored by the Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt Avocado Festival, Artslink Queensland, the Regional Arts Fund, the Queensland Government and Horsetrax Oz.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Phone the Market Co-Ordinator on (0427) 631-273 during business hours.
Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 7:30pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Mystique and Carmel Green (from Ronnie And The Ramblers) and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a big Lucky Door draw. Tonight's dance will be celebrating the Hall's 95th birthday, so expect a few surprises. Admission fees are $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for high school students and everyone is welcome! More details? Phone June on (07) 4162-1195 or David on 0459-228-882.
Saturday Rugby League - Nanango, Wondai and Murgon
Rugby league fans will have a choice of two A-grade matches in Murgon and Wondai today, weather permitting, while junior games will be running in Nanango, Murgon and Wondai. In Nanango, the U6s will hit Fred Kassulke Oval at 9:00am, followed by the U8s at 10:00am, the U10s at 11:00am, the U12s at 12:20pm and the U14s - who'll be playing the Cherbourg Hornets U14s - at 1:20pm. At the Wondai Sportsgrounds, junior games will start at 1:00pm with the U14s, followed by the U16s at 2:00pm, and then an A-grade clash between the Wondai Wolves and Cherbourg Hornets at 3:00pm. Finally, at the Murgon Sportsgrounds, the U6s and U8s Mustangs will play the Hornets at 8:30am, folowed by the U10s at 9:30am; the U12s at 11:00am; and U14s match between the Mustangs and Chinchilla at noon, an U18s match between South Burnett and Brothers at 1:00pm, and then the A-grade match of the day between Murgon's Mustangs and Kingaroy's Red Ants at 3:00pm. Canteens will be operating at all three venues and spectators are very welcome!
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
Round 9 of the 2016 South Burnett Football League competition will be played entirely at Kingaroy's Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street today in what promises to be a derby of non-stop soccer action. Matches will kick off at noon with the 2nd Division games: Gunners v Nanango, followed at 1:40pm by Wests v Barambah. These will be followed by two Women's Division matches: Wests v Barambah at 3:15pm, then Gunners v Nanango at 4:30pm. After this, Wests will play Barambah in 1st Division at 5:45pm, followed by Gunners v Nanango at 7:30pm. A canteen and sausage sizzle will be running all day, and spectators are very welcome! Note: Junior soccer matches which were planned to have been held at the Nanango Soccer Fields today have been set back for a week and will now be held on June 11. This means all junior players (and their parents) can have a bye today.
Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints mens and womens sides will be playing at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today - and it'll be a special day, too. It's the Saints' annual Heritage Round when they discard their usual uniforms and dress up as the Jets in honour of the region's first AFL team. Today, the women's side will play a combined Coolaroo/Warwick side at 1:00pm, and they'll be followed by the Saints men's side playing against the Chinchilla Suns at 2:50pm. A bar and canteen will be in operation and spectators are very welcome! Note: Today's matches will be the last at-home AFL games for awhile. Next week will be a Rep weekend; the week after, both Saints teams will have a bye; and the week after that they'll be playing away. The next home game will be on July 2, when both sides play Goondiwindi the final first round of this year's competition.
Christian Music Workshops - Kingaroy
Christian music group "Endless Praise" will be holding free workshops at Kingaroy State High School from 3:30pm this afternoon for interested local residents. The group has been brought to the South Burnett by the Kingaroy Seventh-day Adventist Church, and the workshops will be held in the Kingaroy SHS School Assembly Hall. They will cover vocals, how to breathe/sing/harmonize/warm-up and have confidence on stage, and how to lead a praise and worship team. There will also be separate workshops for boys and girls talking about bullying, body image, addictions, social media and identity. Refreshments will be served at 6:00pm, and this will be followed by a free one hour concert from the group at 7:00pm, which is open to everyone in the community. More details? Phone Gideon on 0405-514-440.
