Proston Centenary CelebrationsThe first day of the two-day Proston Centenary Celebrations will be held at multiple locations in Proston today and tomorrow, kicking off at 6:30am with a Centenary Big Breakfast at the Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road that will run until 9:30am. Meanwhile - at Railway Park in Rodney Street - $2 registrations, programmes and name tags will start being distributed from 6:30am and the weekly Proston Parkrun will hit the track at 7:00am. At 8:00am a Back To Basics kitchen will open at the Community Hall and food stalls will open up at Railway Park, along with markets and amusements from 8:30am. At 9:00am, Colin Thomson will present a Railway Tour, the Proston State School will open for former students (see entry below) and there'll be a Dressmaker's Exhibition Guided Presentation and vintage machinery on display at the Showgrounds. At 10:30am, the action will move to Rodney Street for a Street Parade that will run to Blake Street, after which the weekend will be officially opened at 11:30am on The Platform community stage in Railway Park. This will be followed by the launch of a new book ("Proston - 100 Years Down The Track") at The Platform at 12:30pm, followed with live music hosted by Lin Chandler. At 2:00pm, there'll be a bus tour running to old Proston district school sites, and this will be followed by the cutting of a Centenary Cake at The Platform at 3:30pm, and then a second bus tour to old school sites at 4:00pm. In the evening, the Proston Apex Club will present their new show "It's A Knockout" on The Platform at 6:00pm, followed by an outdoor screening of historic Proston film footage shot between 1955 and 1976 at 7:00pm. After this, the day will be capped off with a gala Centenary Dance in the Community Hall that will run from 8:00pm until late.
Annie Jr - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society's youth theatre will be presenting their second performance of the musical Annie Junior "in the round" at the Kingaroy State High School's Performing Arts Centre at the end of Markwell Street, Kingaroy at 7:00pm tonight. Annie Jr is based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning musical by Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin and was last performed in the region in 2021. Swimming Club Sign-On
- The Proston Swimming Pool in Collingwood Street, Proston will be holding a Piranhas Swim Club Sausage Sizzle and Sign-On Day at the pool from 12:30pm. Proston State School Reunion
- Proston P-10 State School at 94 Rodney Street, Proston will be celebrating the town's Centenary with an Open Day at the school today. 33rd Annual Golden Oldies - Cherbourg
- Cherbourg's annual Golden Oldies Reunion for former residents of Cherbourg will be celebrating its 33rd birthday at the Cherbourg Community Hall today with a Golden Oldies afternoon from 11:00am to around 5:00pm. This year's get-together has a "For Our Elders" theme and guests are encouraged to dress in something reflecting Aboriginal or Torres Strait colours. The get-together will offer a luncheon, live entertainment from the Sheik Of Scrubby Creek Chad Morgan and the Koori King of Country Roger Knox, films and a slideshow, as well as a Lucky Door. South Burnett Mental Health Golf Challenge - Murgon
- The sixth round of the South Burnett Mental Health Golf Challenge will be played at the Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south of Murgon's CBD at 8:00am this morning. The Challenge aims to raise funds to assist the region's mental health services and rounds have been played all around the region, with the finals scheduled for Kingaroy in mid-October. Today's play will take the form of a three-person ambrose with the top 4 teams going on to the finals and the cost (which includes green fees and lunch) is $90 per team. Everyone is welcome, and you can read more about this unusual competition on our website. Note: The finals of this competition will be held at the Kingaroy Golf Club on Saturday, October 14.
Yarraman Markets
- The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets - now held on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturday each month - feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls. Kingaroy Men's Shed
- The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
- The Maidenwell Hotel's popular monthly Pig On A Spit Night will be running from 6:00pm until late this evening. Popular South Burnett entertainers Tucker And Chop will be performing on the hotel's deck, and guests can get stuck into more pork than they can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! BP Dam Inland Fishing Classic
- The first day of the weekend-long Bjelke-Petersen Dam Inland Classic fishing competition will be held at the Yallakool Tourist Park on the dam's foreshores today. This popular annual fishing competition is run by the Dam's fish stocking association and always offers a great weekend of family fun with loads of giveaways including rods, reels, tackle, iceboxes, vouchers, camping gear and more (in excess of $28,000 worth or prizes will be given away this year). In addition, one lucky person will also win a brand new boat, motor and trailer in the major prize lucky draw. Registrations to take part in the competition are just $20 for adults or $5 for juniors and there'll be several weigh-ins today, with final weigh-ins and prize-giving tomorrow morning. Spectators are very welcome!
Chiggy's Skateboarding Workshop - Proston

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Parkrun - Blackbutt
- The Blackbutt parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Blackbutt from 7:00am this morning. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. Shine By Design Wellness Luncheon - Kingaroy
