2023 Wondai ShowThe main day of the two-day Wondai Show will run at the Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai today. Gates will open at 6:30am for breakfast in the cattle section, which will be followed by judging of horses, poultry, stud beef and dairy cattle will get underway at 8:30am. The pavilions, sideshows and trade displays will open at 9:00am and there'll also be a display of antique tractors and stationary engines and a working arts and crafts display in the old grandstand to inspect, along with an animal nursery and face painting for children in front of the Show's office. Out in the main ring, chainsaw racing will start at 9:30am and voting for the Show & Shine exhibits and the Truck Show will be running right through until noon. The Show's official opening will take place at 11:30am and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 12:30pm. At 1:30pm, the Wondai Town & District Band will give a concert, followed by Ute Muster judging at 2:00pm and then Barrel Racing in the main ring at 3:00pm. At 5:00pm, a chainsawing competition between Stihl and Husqvana will run in front of the grandstand, and this will be followed by a pulse-pounding Bull Ride at 6:00pm, and then live entertainment from Mr Q from 8:30pm until late. There'll also be lots of food stalls operating as well as two licensed bars, a BBQ and a sit down dining room. Admission to today's Show is just $10 for adults or $6 for pensioners and high school students, and everyone is welcome.
Off The Grid Lifestyle Expo - Goomeri
- The first day of the annual Off Grid Lifestyle Expo will be held at the Goomeri Showgrounds in Laird Street, Goomeri from 8:00am to 4:00pm today. The Expo will feature displays and demonstrations of off-grid energy and water technologies along with traditional crafts like cheese-making, bread-making, weaving and spinning, pottery and carpentry - often reusing, recycling and repurposing existing items to reduce waste. There'll also be information and displays on farming alternatives such as permaculture, aquaculture, hydroponics, native plants, seeds and seed saving, bee keeping, plants (including fruit and nut trees) and bush tucker. Admission is $10 per day or $15 for the weekend (U16s are free), and more information is available on the Expo's website.
Heritage Nanango Playfest
- The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the second day of their 3-day 2023 Heritage Nanango Playfest at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango from 8:30am (when doors open) to around 10:00pm tonight. The first of today's three sessions will start at 9:00am featuring Do It For The Boyz, Murder At Rosemere, The Man In The Bowler Hat and Hoods. This will be followed by an afternoon session at 2:00pm featuring Anonymous, Netty's Night Out and The Donahue Sisters, and then a night session at 7:00pm featuring Rue, Good News Bad News, I Do You Die and Love Me (Not). Tickets to any of today's sessions are just $10 per head or you can book a season pass for $40. Tickets can be booked online but they'll also be available at the door unless sold out. The winners of this year's Playfest will be announced on Sunday around 12:30pm.
Nanango Country Markets
- The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Proston Men's Shed
- The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for their regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am and continuing on until noon. Livin' Live Festival - Nanango
- The Commercial Hotel at 69 Drayton Street in Nanango will be hosting the Livin' Live Music Festival from 2:00pm until late tonight. The event will feature four great bands - The Filthy Animals, Mr Q, Rufus Jack and Matt Schlam - and guests should BYO chair, dancing shoes and singing voices to join in on well-known songs from Jimmy Barnes, INXS, Cold Chisel, AC/DC and many other Aussie classics that will be played during the show. Kingaroy Men's Shed
- The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Cooyar Hotel Bull & Bronc Ride
- The Cooyar Hotel on the New England Highway at Cooyar will be hosting its annual Bull & Bronc Ride at the rear of the pub from 3:00pm until late tonight. This very popular event will feature the $3000 Hank McArthur Memorial Open Bull Ride, a Bareback Ride, Mini Bulls and lots more. There'll also be a Horizontal Bungee competition at half time and an after-party with entertainment from Mick Oberle. The Ringers Western Truck will be providing canteen and BBQ services on-site and there's free camping nearby if you want to stay over. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for young people aged 13 to 18, $15 for high school students with student ID and $10 for young people aged 4 to 13 (U4s are free). They can be booked online. Movie & Music Trivia Night - Yarraman
- Yarraman State School at 17 John Street, Yarraman will be holding a Movie & Music Trivia Night with an Aussie bogan theme from 5:30pm (for a 6:00pm start) until late tonight as a P&C fundraiser. Guests are encouraged to dress up in their best bogan attire and there'll be a fully stocked bar and hot food available if you get hungry or thirsty (also platters, but you'll need to pre-order these from the school). Play will take place in teams of 4 to 10 at $10 per player and there'll be $500 in cash prizes up for grabs, as well as prizes for the best dressed team and individual. Saturday Line Dancing - Wooroolin
- Line dancing classes will be held at Wooroolin Hall on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin this morning. Classes will run from 9:00am to 10:00am (beginners) and 10:30am to 12:30pm (improvers) and a small dancing fee applies to either class. Everyone is welcome.
Spring Ranch Show - Nanango
- The South Burnett Western Performance Club will be running their annual Spring Ranch Show with judge Bob Sim at their grounds in Racecourse Road, Nanango from 8:00am this morning. This one-day event will offer a full range of classes from Beginner to Open, and this will be the club's last event for 2023 so that work can begin on a major upgrade to the grounds. Admission is free for spectators and a canteen will be operating on site. Powered camping spots are also available for participants (if you're quick). Everyone is welcome!
Yarraman Men's Shed

Netball 2024 Rep Trials - Nanango
- The Nanango & District Netball Association will be holding their 2024 Rep Trials on their courts at 55 Appin Street, Nanango this afternoon. Trials for U12s, U13s and U14s girls (and boys born between 2010 and 2013) will be run at 1:00pm, and these will be followed by trials for U15s, U16s and U18s girls (and boys born between 2006 and 2009) at 2:00pm. - As part of this year's Wondai Show, Westlink Petroleum will be holding a Truck Show at the Wondai Showgrounds today. Competitors in the Truck Show will compete across 12 classes for cash prizes and trophies across three places, and spectators are very welcome to inspect the many big rigs expected to take part. Queensland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra - Kingaroy
- The Queensland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing a free community concert at the Kingaroy Performing Arts Centre at the end of Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 2:30pm to 4:30pm this afternoon. The Orchestra will be performing Verdi's "Force Of Destiny Overture"; an oboe concerto by Marcello; excerpts from "The Seasons" by Glazunov; Beethoven's 6th Symphony "Pastoral"; and the Blue Danube Waltz by Strauss. Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
- The Suncoast Spinners will be hosting a round of Wheelchair Basketball at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon, from 10:00am to 12:00 noon today. Pig On A Spit Night - Wooroolin
- The Grand Hotel on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin will be holding their monthly Pig On A Spit Night from 5:30pm until late this evening. Apart from a great roast pork meal there'll also be a Lucky Door prize, raffles and live karaoke entertainment. - The Blackbutt parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Blackbutt from 7:00am this morning. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. Bunya Mountains Walk
- A walk will be held this morning along the Barker Creek Circuit in the Bunya Mountains, a moderately challenging 9.8km trail that takes most people 3 to 4 hours to complete. Participants should bring robust shoes, water and snacks, sunscreen and a hat, and tick and leech repellant spray may be a good idea as well. Walkers will meet up outside the Bunya Mountains Store near the Dandabah Picnic Area at 8:00am and there's no charge to take part.
Wellness Workshop - Murgon
- A Shine By Design Wellness Workshop will be held at Murgon Town Hall in Gore Street, Murgon from 9:00am to 1:00pm today. The workshop aims to show participants how to build a stronger, healthier and happier life and it is jointly sponsored by the Federal Government and the South Burnett Regional Council. South Burnett Rugby League Grand Finals - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett's 2023 rugby league season will conclude today with the Grand Finals of the U14s and A-grade competitions at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. The day will get underway at 10:30am with an U13s Challenge between Kingaroy's Red Ants and Cherbourg's Hornets, followed by a second U13s match at 12:00 noon between Murgon's Mustangs and the Wondai Wolves. After this - at 1:30pm - the U14s Cherbourg Hornets will play their Grand Final against the Chinchilla Bulldogs, and this will be followed at 3:00pm with the A-grade Grand Final between the Red Ants and the Hornets. Gates will open from 9:30am and entry to today's games is $5 (cash only). Everyone is welcome!
Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
- Football fans should head to
the Alan Downey Sportsfields in Burnett Street, Nanango this morning. At 9:00am, the grand final of the U12/U123 competition will be played between Barambah and Kingaroy Mad Painters; and this will be followed at 11:00am with a grand final cadets match between Kingaroy Blacks Electrical and Dalby Diagnostic Phoenix. In the evening, the action will move to Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy for the second semi-final of the senior men's competition (between Kingaroy Easts and Kingaroy Wests) which will be played under lights from 6:00pm. A canteen will be operating at both grounds and spectators are very welcome.
