Fathers Day
- Today is the first Sunday in September: Fathers Day, the counterpoint to Mothers Day and probably the one time of the year that thoughtful children make their Dad breakfast in bed, get him his Ipad so he can read the Sunday news and then stay well out of his hair for at least an hour or two (especially if he was out celebrating last night). If you want to give your Dad a special treat today there are several fun things happening around our region you can take him along to - and there's sure to be something to please him no matter what his interests. Here's what they are:
Fathers Day Breakfast Buffet - Kingaroy
- The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy will be running an all-you-can-eat Fathers Day Brekkie Buffet from 8:30am to 11:30am this morning. Tickets are $25 for adults or $15 for kids and all of them will go into a raffle draw for a Fathers Day hamper. However, a booking is essential. You can make one on the hotel's website
Father's Day Camp Oven Lunch - Ballogie
- Here's something different! Award-winning camp oven chefs The Bait Layers will be hosting a Fathers Day Camp Oven Lunch at 45 Wonga Crescent in Ballogie from 11:00am today. For $35 per head (or $17.50 for children under 12 - under 5s are free) guests can enjoy a great camp oven lunch and dessert, billy tea and coffee, live entertainment from Natalie Fenton, outdoor games, the opportunity to paint Dad's portrait and a lucky door prize. Open Mic Jam Session & Social Bowls - Kilkivan
- The Kilkivan Bowls Club in Crescent Street, Kilkivan will be holding a free Open Mic Jam Session from 12:00 noon to around 4:00pm today. The club's bar and hot food will be available from noon, and barefoot social bowls will be happening on the greens from around 1:00pm (green fees for this are $8 for adults or $4 for students). Grooving In The Gardens - Nanango
- The South Burnett Regional Council will be presenting the second of three free, monthly "Grooving In The Gardens" concerts at Ringsfield House at 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango from 11:00am to 2:00pm this afternoon. Guests can bring along a picnic lunch and a blanket or folding chairs and enjoy a concert by country band The Gidgee Pickers. More details? Phone the Council on (07) 4189-9100.
Timbertowns Woodworkers - Blackbutt
- The Timbertowns Woodworkers group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:30am until around 12:00 noon today. Off The Grid Lifestyle Expo - Goomeri
- The second (and final) day of the annual Off Grid Lifestyle Expo will be held at the Goomeri Showgrounds in Laird Street, Goomeri from 8:00am to 4:00pm today. The Expo will feature displays and demonstrations of off-grid energy and water technologies along with traditional crafts like cheese-making, bread-making, weaving and spinning, pottery and carpentry - often reusing, recycling and repurposing existing items to reduce waste. There'll, also be information and displays on farming alternatives such as permaculture, aquaculture, hydroponics, native plants, seeds and seed saving, bee keeping, plants (including fruit and nut trees) and bush tucker. Admission is $10 per day or $15 for the weekend (U16s are free), and more information is available on the Expo's website.
Heritage Nanango Playfest
- The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the third (and final) day of their 3-day 2023 Heritage Nanango Playfest at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango from 8:30am (when doors open) to around 12:30pm this afternoon. The day will begin at 9:00am with a final session of three plays (Roof House, In The Blood and Birthday Surprise) which will be followed by the announcement of this year's winning plays at around 12:30pm. Tickets to today's session are just $10 per head and they can be booked online but they'll also be available at the door unless sold out.
Sunday Bingo - Wondai
- Bingo games will be held at the Wondai RSL in Mackenzie Street, Wondai this afternoon, with eyes down from 1:30pm. There will be 3 jackpots and 15 games on offer, and the kitchen will be open for light meals. Proceeds will go to help Wondai RSL veterans. More details? Phone (07) 4168-5297.
Birdy's Open Day - Wondai
- The Wondai Golf Club on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD will be hosting its Birdy's Open Day competition today - a two person ambrose with nominated partners. Green fees are $15 per person and names need to be in by 10:30am for a shotgun start at 11:00am. The competition is open to all golfers and non-golfers and there'll be trophies for the winners. Sunday Afternoon Poker - Kingaroy
- CANCELLED: Sunday afternoon poker games will be played at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy today. Registrations start at 2:00pm and play begins at 2:30pm. But they will return as normal next Sunday.
Sunday High Tea - Wondai
- Dimities Cottage in Haly Street, Wondai (opposite the Wondai Regional Art Gallery) will be hosting a high tea from 10:00am to noon this morning. Eleven Dollar Bills - Linville
- The Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville will be celebrating Fathers Day with The Eleven Dollar Bills, who'll be performing over lunch and into the afternoon in the beer garden. Fathers Day In The Vineyard - Moffatdale

Linville Markets
- The Linville Progress Association will be holding their monthly markets in George Street, Linville (down from the Linville Hotel) from 7:00am to around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets feature great BBQ breakfasts and lots of fresh produce, home-made foods, crafts and bric-a-brac and run on the first Sunday of each month.
