Pink Stumps Day - Kingaroy
South Burnett cricketers and everyone who'd like to help a worthy cause this weekend will be gathering at the Red Ants Football Grounds in Youngman Street (just next to the Kingaroy Cricket Club) from 8:30am onwards today to support the McGrath Foundation's Pink Stumps Day - an annual fundraiser that helps to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia and increase breast awareness in young Australian women. Teams who want to play need to pay a $60 nomination fee and have at least two women in their ranks. There'll also be a $5 penalty for those who don't dress in this year's theme (which is "Pretty In Pink"). And while competing teams battle it out on the pitch. Spectators are also very welcome to watch the fun under cover at the clubhouse, take part in raffles and prize draws all day; chow down on meat and gravy rolls and sandwiches (which will be on sale); and try to grab a bargain at a great charity auction which will be held in the afternoon. The club is fully licensed and everyone is welcome! Note: This event was originally planned to be held last Sunday but had to be postponed at the last minute due to region-wide flooding and road closures. It was also originally planned to be held at the Cricket Club next door, but was relocated because the footy grounds are better suited to social cricket.
Sunday Markets - Kilkivan
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 11:00am this morning. The markets feature an array of locally produced fruit, vegetables and merchandise and new stallholders are always welcome! More details? Phone Dulcie on (07) 5484-1032
Nanango Stags 2013 Sign-On Day
The Nanango Stags senior and junior rugby league clubs will be holding their 2013 Sign-On Day at the Stags clubhouse on Fred Kassulke Oval on the D'Aguilar Highway just south of the CBD from 10:00am to 2:00pm today for players of all ages. There'll be a free sausage sizzle on offer and new players are very welcome. More details? Phone (0438) 633-584.
Country Music Afternoon - Yarraman
A Country Music Arvo will be held at the Yarraman Community Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman at 1:00pm this afternoon. These regular monthly music afternoons usually feature both guest and walk-up artists, and all funds raised are donated to worthy causes. Everyone is welcome! You can obtain more details by phoning (07) 4163-2469. Note: This event is put on by the Nanango Country Music Friends and today's get-together is the first one for the year after a short Festive Season break.
Timbertown Woodworkers Group Meeting - Blackbutt
The Timbertown Woodworkers Group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:00am until around 12:00pm today. New members who are interested in learning woodwork are always welcome and you can obtain more details by phoning Marcia on (07) 4170-0389
Jeff Hancox - Nanango
Popular South Burnett entertainer Jeff Hancox (the South Burnett's Elvis) will be performing at the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango at 1:30pm this afternoon. Admission is free. More details? Phone the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Casual Capers Equestrian Fun Day - Kingaroy
A Casual Capers Equestrian Fun Day will be held at the Kingaroy pony club grounds (inside Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street) from 8:30am onwards this morning. The event is a casual, informal fun day for people and their horses and ponies, and there'll be competitions for the best presented, handler, walk-trot, hack and rider classes, along with a walking race. All skill levels are welcome and you can ride or be led, as you prefer. A great sausage sizzle and drink are included in your nomination, and you can nominate when you arrive. Organisers expect a great day for novice riders and horses and the only thing they ask is that you be sunsafe and wear safe headwear and boots. More details? Phone Glenis on (07) 4162-2162 or send her an email. POSTPONED: This event was postponed due to recent flooding, but the organisers neglected to inform everyone about their decision to do so. southburnett.com.au sincerely apologises to any of our readers who inconvenienced by this.
