Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their first monthly exhibition for 2013 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm this evening. Tonight's exhibition will feature artworks by Sunshine Coast indigenous portrait artist Jandamarra Cadd in the Alison Iszlaub Gallery (see example at right). Jandamarra's works have been widely exhibited throughout south-east Queensland over the last decade, and one of his works was seen at the Wondai Art Gallery in 2008 in the collaborative art exhibition "Through Our Eyes", where it won the People's Choice Award. But this month's exhibition is his first solo showing at the Gallery and sure to be a crowd-pleaser! He'll be backed up by works from artist Carol Punch in the Front Gallery and paper tole pieces by Rosemarie Matthews-Frederick in the Third Gallery, as well as works by students from Tingoora State School in Kids Corner. Tonight's opening will also feature great finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from Crane Wines and live music. Admission is $5 and everyone is very welcome to attend. More details? Phone the Gallery on (07) 4168-5926. Note: After tonight's opening the exhibition will remain on show from 10:00am to 4:00pm every day until the end of the month.
Friday Social Golf - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy will holding their regular Friday 9-ers 9 hole social golfing sessions for men and women from 8:00am until dusk today. Everyone is most welcome (including non-members) and green fees are $11 for members or $14 for non-members for the nine holes - but this also includes a card draw for prizes in the clubhouse in the evening (there's also a Jackpot card draw on the last Friday of each month). More details? Phone the Golf Club on (07) 4162-1720
Fancy Food Friday - Wondai
It's all go in Wondai tonight! In addition to the Wondai Gallery's new exhibition opening (see entry further above), Dimities Cottage across the road at 49 Haly Street will also be launching something new this evening: Fancy Food Fridays. Chef Graham will be throwing open the doors of the Posh Dining Room at 6:00pm to showcase a special a-la-carte menu of treats he's carefully prepared in Dimities' kitchen, and you can order whatever you like: anything from bite-size entrees right up to something so substantial you might not need another meal for a week. As always at Dimities, you're very welcome to BYO drinks - but a booking may be a good idea (seating is limited, and the Lively 50s&60s social group have already booked a table, so you can expect some liveliness even before the Gallery crowd arrive). More details? Phone (07) 4168-5744.
