South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Community Flood Recovery Information Meeting - Murgon
The South Burnett Regional Council in conjunction with the Federal and State Governments and regional organisations will be holding the first of a series of Community Flood Recovery Information Meetings at thw Murgon Visitor Information Centre in Lamb Street, Murgon from 6:30am to 8:30am this morning. The purpose of the meeting is to provide the latest information about the assistance that's now available (eg: loans, grants and/or support) for people who were affected by the Australia Day weekend floods. Apart from the Council there'll also be representatives on hand from the Department of Communities, Farm Financial Counsellors from DAFF, BIEDO Grant Angels, Centrelink and Centacare to answer questions and make appointments to assist. A cuppa and breakfast will also be supplied and anyone affected by the recent floods - or who knows of someone who was - is very welcome. More details? Fancy Food Friday - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai (opposite the Wondai Art Gallery) will be holding a Fancy Food Friday from 6:00pm this evening. Chef Graham will be throwing open the doors of the Posh Dining Room to showcase a special a-la-carte menu of treats he's carefully prepared in Dimities' kitchen, and you can order whatever you like: anything from bite-sized entrees right up to something so substantial you might not need another meal for a week. As always at Dimities, you're very welcome to BYO drinks - but a booking may be a good idea (but a booking may be a good idea (seating is limited, and the Lively 50s&60s social group have already booked a table). Big Scrub Garden Club Meeting - Kumbia
After a break for the Festive Season, the Big Scrub Garden Club will be holding their first meeting for 2013 at Chris Dugdell's garden in Kumbia from 10:00am onwards this morning. The club meets on the last Friday of each month (except January) but the venue changes from one month to the next. New members are always welcome! South Burnett Wine Appreciation Society Meeting - Kingaroy
After a brief break over the Festive Season, the South Burnett Wine Appreciation Society will be resuming their regular monthly meetings for 2013 at their new meeting address - the 1913 Council Chambers in Edward Street behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre - from 6:30pm onwards this evening. The Wine Appreciation Society is open to anyone who'd like to learn more about wines and the $10 meeting fee covers wine tastings and nibbles. Everyone is welcome! More details? Friday Social Golf - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy will holding their regular Friday 9-ers 9 hole social golfing sessions for men and women from 8:00am until dusk today. Everyone is most welcome (including non-members) and green fees are $11 for members or $14 for non-members for the nine holes - but this also includes a card draw for prizes in the clubhouse in the evening (there's also a Jackpot card draw on the last Friday of each month). Adult Learn To Swim Class - Wondai
Are you an adult who doesn't know how to swim and/or feels inseciure in the water? Then get along to the Wondai Swimming Pool at 101 Mackenzie Street. They'll be holding a gold coin donation Adult Learn To Swim Class from 10:00am to 11:00am this morning (and every Friday morning until Easter). The course is conducted by local swimming coach Adam Stephenson and it's open to adults of all ages, levels of fitness and ability. All you need to bring are your swimming togs, a towel, sun protection, a gold coin and (if needed) your medication. Your gold coin donation is paid directly to Adam and all swimming pool fees are waived, since they're paid for by the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program. More details? Endeavour Foundation Bingo - Kingaroy
The Endeavour Foundation will be holding bingo games at Kingaroy RSL from 10:00am this morning. There'll be four jackpots on offer, as well as a raffle. Everyone is welcome.
Social & Savvy Networking Night RSVP Deadline
Today is the last day you can book a ticket to the first Social & Savvy Networking Night for 2013, which will be held at the Kingaroy Hotel next Monday night, February 25th (see entry that day for all details).
Tendering For Government Business Workshop - Kingaroy
The Department Of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning will be holding a half-day workshop explaining how to tender for State Government business in the Tabinga Room of the old DPI complex at 214 Kingaroy-Cooyar Road, Kingaroy from 8:00am to 12:00 noon today. The interactive 4-hour workshop will cover the principles of government procurement policies and processes; how to interpret and effectively respond to offer and tender documents; where to look for current and upcoming tendering opportunities; and how to develop winning tenders. Kingaroy Community Garden Meeting
The Kingaroy Community Garden group will be holding their second meeting for 2013 at the Pound Street community garden (just at the rear of the Senior Citizens Park) from 10:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. The community garden is a joint initiative of RHealth, BIEDO and the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities initiative, and it allows people interested in learning more about permaculture, soils, composting, worms, seed saving, insects and trees to jointly cultivate the community garden and share in the fresh produce that it produces. Anyone who'd like to get involved in this project is very welcome to come along (BYO chair, sun protection, water bottle, gardening gloves and closed-toe shoes) and the group meets roughly once a fortnight. Swimming For Fitness - Kingaroy
A Swimming For Fitness class run by the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program will be held at the Kingaroy Swimming Pool at the corner of William and Alford Streets from 9:30am to 10:30am this morning. The class is conducted by swimming coach Donna Dangerfield and is suitable for all fitness and ability levels. If you want to take part - the pool is heated - bring your togs, towel, sun protection and (if applicable) medication, along with a gold coin donation for Donna. Pool entry for this program has been paid by Council, and the class will run every week through Term 1.
Kingaroy Christmas Carnival Debriefing - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Young Leaders Association will be holding a debriefing meeting about last year's Kingaroy Christmas Carnival at the Carrollee Hotel in King Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm to around 7:30pm this evening. Anyone with any feedback to give on last year's Carnival is very welcome along, as well as anyone who'd like to get involved in this year's Carnival.
South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Country Music Practice Night - Nanango
