South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
17th Annual Yarraman Horse Ride
The Yarraman Agricultural Society's 17th Annual Yarraman Horse Ride will be held in and around Yarraman today. The Ride is the second-biggest in the region (the other is the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride, held each March) and this year's event will be a five-hour, 25km ride along the Blackbutt Rail Trail from Yarraman to Gilla and around the surrounding countryside. The ride will leave the Showgrounds at 7:30am and return at around 4:45pm. In the evening, it will be followed by a programme of live entertainment featuring singer Natalie Fenton which will run from 7:00pm until around midnight, along with meals and a bar. Admission to the Ride is $20 (which includes the evening entertainment programme) and there'll be overnight camping facilities and hot showers available at the Showgrounds too, including a burger dinner on Friday night; breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday; and a recovery breakfast on Sunday morning. Recruitment Stand For 135 Army Cadet Unit - Kingaroy
A Recruitment Stand for the 135 Army Cadet Unit will be operating at Kingaroy Shoppoingworld from 10:00am to 1:00pm today to provide information for anyone interested in joining this local branch of the Army Cadets. The Cadets are open to youths of both sexes from twelve and a half to nineteen years of age, and the 135 Unit services Mundubbera, Gayndah, Murgon, Wondai and Kingaroy. The 135 Unit is also the only South Burnett army cadet unit to undertake activities on an army base with access to the adjoining State Forest. And if you're interested in a possible military career, the Cadets is your chance to experience a really awesome time by getting into some adventurous activities conducted in a military setting. Cooyar Show Ball
The annual Cooyar Show Ball - the traditional curtain-raiser for the Cooyar Show on February 23rd - will be held at Cooyar Hall on the New England Highway at Cooyar from 7:30pm until around 12:00 noon tonight. A feature of this fully licensed event will be the judging of Miss Cooyar Showgirl 2013 (as well as awards for Matron of the Ball, Belle of the Ball, Miss Teen Showgirl and Junior Princess). Music will be supplied by The Silvertones and there'll be a great supper available too! Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and everyone is most welcome to attend.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Watercolour Workshop - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Wondai will be holding a two-day watercolour painting workshop led by artist Sue Lederhose at The Studio immediately next to the Gallery today and tomorrow. Course fees are $30 per day for adults and $20 per day for concessions, and bookings are essential: (07) 4168-5926. Artist Jandemarra Cadd (whose new exhibition opened at the Gallery last night) will also be holding an art workshop today. Susan Dowdle School Of Dance Enrolments Day - Murgon
The Susan Dowdle School of Dance will be holding their 2013 enrolments morning at PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon from 9:00am to 1:00pm today. The School teaches classical, tap, hip-hop, jazz and contemporary dance and students can take part in concerts and the Kingaroy Eisteddfod and/or take RAD and CSTD exams if they wish. The South Burnett Saints AFL team will be holding the first of two 2013 Sign-On Days at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 12:00 noon today (the second will be held at the same location on Sunday, February 17th from 11:00am to 2:00pm). Nanango Netball Sign-On Day
The Nanango & District Netball Association will be holding their 2013 Sign On Day at Nanango Foodworks in Fitzroy Street, Nanango today. But if you can't make it, a second (and final) sign-on wil be held at the Brooklands Road netball courts on Friday, February 8 at 4:15pm.
Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 6:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Mark's Music and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a big Lucky Door draw. Saturday Cricket
After a break for the Australia Day long weekend and the floods, South Burnett cricketers will be playing the latest rounds of this year's 2012-13 cricket season at a variety of locations around the region today (round 9 for A grade, round 12 for B grade). In A-grade, the Murgon Crusaders will play the Wooroolin Warriers at the Murgon Sportsgrounds, while Kingaroy RSL will play the Nanango Scorpions at Lyle Vidler Ocal in Kingaroy. And in B-grade, the Warriors will play Kumbia; Wondai will play Kingaroy RSL; Murgon Magic will play Barambah; and the Murgon Colts will play Diggers, all at the usual venues. All matches are one day games and get underway at 12:00 noon. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!

What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
All the South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Kilkivan Neighbourhood Watch will be holding their Annual General Meeting at the Kilkivan CWA Hall in Park Street at 12:00 noon today. All interested people are welcome to attend.
Open House Fundraiser - Nanango
Nanango resident Mark Degoumois and artist Vikki Jiminez will be holding an Open House at 22 Alfred Street, Nanango between 8:00am and 4:00pm today to raise funds for the Salvation Anmy. For a gold coin donation, guests can view murals that Vikki has painted in the back yard and enjoy a soft drink, a sausage, or a cup of coffee or tea. Guests are also welcome join the couple for breakfast or lunch.
