Queensland State Election
- The Queensland State Election will be held today to decide who will run the State for the next four years. Although a third of voters across the State have already filled in their ballots, there'll still be big turnouts expected today at booths. Depending on where you live in the region you'll be voting for your preferred representative in the Nanango or Callide electorates. Remember, voting is compulsory and you must number every box. Polling booths will open at 8:00am and close at 6:00pm. Check out where to vote on our website.
Bjelke-Petersen Dam Open Day - Moffatdale
- A free, family-friendly day has been organised by Sunwater at BP Dam from 10:00am to 2:00pm today. There'll be live music, kids' activities, emergency service displays, a free barbecue and much more! Meet the team from Sunwater and take a tour of the dam (book on the Sunwater website), learn about the history of the dam and how it works, how to prepare for local weather events and how to stay safe in and on the water. A free shuttle bus will also be running from Cherbourg and Murgon (book online). PS. The Barambah Dragons will also be there ... so there's a chance to try out dragon boating!
Calamity Jane - A Musical Western
- The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be presenting their second last performance of the musical "Calamity Jane" at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm tonight. Calamity Jane based on the non-historical story of a real US frontierswoman and her association with Wild Bill Hickok. The musical is an adaption of a 1953 Warner Bros film of the same name that starred Doris Day. Tickets to see Calamity Jane are $30 for adults or $20 for students/concessions and they can be booked online or purchased at the door. Note: There'll be just one more performance, a matinee on Sunday.
Meet'n'Greet - Wondai
- The Wondai Business Development Association will be hosting a meet'n'greet alongside today's Wondai Markets in Coronation Park. There will be information available from Wondai businesses, clubs and organisations. Everyone is welcome! The markets get under way at 6:30am.
Wondai Country Markets
- The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. The markets feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans. The BBQs will also be firing up from around 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. New stallholders are always very welcome (stall fees range from $10 with power and water available, if needed), and you can obtain more details by phoning the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on (07) 4168-5926.
St Patrick's Quiz Night - Nanango
- St Patrick's Primary School at 16 Alfred Street, Nanango will be running their annual Quiz Night in the school's hall from 6:00pm (for a 6:30pm start) until late this evening. Play will take place in teams of 6 to 8 and the evening will have an 80s dress theme. There'll be great prizes from local businesses for quiz winners, and guests should BYO drinks, snacks and enthusiasm for a really great night out. Tickets are just $10 per person and you can book yours by phoning (07) 4163-1555.
Boots And Bling - Coolabunia
- Bethany Cottages, at 218 Peterson Drive, Coolabunia, will be hosting a Boots and Bling benefit from 6:00pm this evening in the "Old Hangar" to assist Eva's Place pregnancy and early parenting support. Cost is $44 per person which includes nibblies, dinner and dessert and entertainment by Brendon Walmsley and the Walmsley Brothers. Mocktails will be available to buy on the night. Greenkeepers Revenge Day - Kingaroy
- Kingaroy Golf Club will be hosting a "Greenkeepers Revenge" fitting day and three-person ambrose today at its course on the Bunya Highway, just outside Kingaroy. Fitting from 7:00am to noon (ph. 0401-070-692). Registrations for play from 11:00am with a shotgun start at noon. $2500 worth of prizes to be won, including nearest-the-pins.
Nanango Mini Market
- The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices - ranging from plants to craft work, DVDs, bric-a-brac, glassware, books, jewellery, photographic work and mosaic art - the markets also have a $3 sausage sizzle, $1.00 soft drinks ($2 for a coke) and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Archery Crafters Encampment - Nanango
- The Barambah Bowhunters and Field Archers Association is hosting a traditional archery national muster this weekend at their grounds on Bow Hunters Road (off the D'Aguilar Highway, just south of Nanango). Pig On The Spit Night - Maidenwell
- The Maidenwell Hotel's popular monthly Pig On A Spit Night will be running from 6:00pm until late this evening with live music by Nash from 7:00pm to late. Guests can get stuck into more pork than they can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots and gravy for $28 per head (chicken and beef options are available too) or $15 for U12s. Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
- South Burnett Wheelchair Basketball is played every Saturday from 10:00am to noon during school terms at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon. All equipment is provided but participants must wear enclosed shoes and bring a water bottle. Wheelchair basketball is an all-abilities game and everyone is invited to come along and have a go!
Halloween Karaoke - Yarraman

Moffatdale State School Golf Day
- Murgon Golf Club will be hosting the annual Moffatdale State School Golf Day as a fundraiser for the school's P&C. There'll be a barbecue lunch from noon, followed by tee off at 1:00pm for the nine-hole three-person ambrose.
