Caulfield Cup Day Races - Wondai
- The South Burnett Race Club will be holding its annual Wondai Races Caulfield Cup Meeting at the Wondai race track in Baynes Street, Wondai from around 11:30am today, and one highlight will be the annual running of the Roy & Glenis Radunz Wondai Cup. The theme of today's meeting is "Pretty In Pink" and guests are encouraged to dress to this theme to be in the running for great prizes in the Fashions Of The Field competition. As usual, there'll be live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races in the undercover bookies ring, a licensed bar, food stalls and canteen. Today's meeting will feature a full card of five races and entry to the track is just $10. South Burnett Rugby League Trophy Presentations - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Rugby League's annual presentation afternoon will be held from 4:30pm today at the Kingaroy Showgrounds (enter via the Speedway gate). Cost is $15 per person, which includes a meal, drink and dessert. A licensed bar will be operating. Gates open at 3:30pm.
Calamity Jane - A Musical Western
- The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be presenting their second performance of the musical "Calamity Jane" at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm tonight. Calamity Jane based on the non-historical story of a real US frontierswoman and her association with Wild Bill Hickok. The musical is an adaption of a 1953 Warner Bros film of the same name that starred Doris Day.
Tickets to see Calamity Jane are $30 for adults or $20 for students/concessions and they can be booked online or purchased at the door. Note: There'll be four additional performances: tomorrow and next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Waterhole Rocks - Nanango
- The annual Waterhole Rocks rock'n'roll campout festival continues at Nanango Showgrounds today. The four-and-a-half day festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock'n'roll, including custom cars, vintage caravans, dancing, market stalls and a fashion competition all backed up by great rock'n'roll music. This year's event will feature performances by many bands with The Rocknrollabillys, Little Stevie and the Tail Fins and Buddy Love and the Tremors on stage today. Admission today is $25 (an all-event pass for $60). Sunday is free. Powered and unpowered camping sites are available if you want to bunk down in the showgrounds. Canapes By The Creek - Kilkivan
- Kilkivan P-10 P&C will be hosting Canapes By The Creek at the Kilkivan Showgrounds at 66 Mudlo Road, Kilkivan from 6:00pm until around midnight tonight. This cocktail-style affair will offer guests complimentary wine or beer on arrival plus gourmet canapes prepared by celebrity chef Matt Golinski, served by Kilkivan SHS students. There'll also be live entertainment by Junction Road. Tickets are $160 per head.
Overnight camping and Sunday breakfast will be available on site for a small extra charge. The evening is to support the Kilkivan P-10 P&C. Tickets can be booked online.
Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
- South Burnett Wheelchair Basketball is played every Saturday from 10:00am to noon during school terms at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon. All equipment is provided but participants must wear enclosed shoes and bring a water bottle. Wheelchair basketball is an all-abilities game and everyone is invited to come along and have a go!
Byte Nite - Murgon
- The South Burnett PCYC at 40 Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding a free Byte Night of fun and games for 12 to 18-year-olds between 6:00pm and 9:00pm this evening. Dusty Day Out - Moffatdale
- The 13th annual Dusty Day Out will be held at Dusty Hill Vineyard in Moffatdale from 11:00am to 11:45pm tonight. This event - which is strictly limited to 400 guests - will feature Pop Standen & Friends, Dude on Piano, Bevin Spears Duo, Abby Skye and Thump & Bad Habits. There'll also be free overnight camping on the grounds (no power, BYO swag or tent) but no pets or BYO are allowed. Tickets are $110 per head and can be booked on Eventbrite.
Kingaroy Friendship Markets
- The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a range of arts, crafts, food stalls, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome.
Golden Lure Trolling Championship - Boondooma Dam
- The annual Golden Lure national freshwater trolling championship will be held on Friday and Saturday at Boondooma Dam. The social fishing tournament, using bibbed hardbody lures only, aims to be a family-friendly event and will include drinks and music on Friday and Saturday nights. All Australian-made hardbody bibbed lure makers are also invited to attend, compete and display their products. There are prizes for the most fish, biggest bass and biggest golden perch as well as lucky draw prizes. Cost to enter the competition is $195 and can be completed online
BARDfest - Nanango
- Nanango Theatre Company will be hosting an evening celebrating poetry at the Opera House, 1 Elk Street, Nanango, from 7:00pm tonight. Margaret Walsh will be presenting poems by her late father Jim Mangan; and Glenn Jones and Liz Caffery will recite some of their favourite pieces. Tickets are $20 (or $15 concession) and can be booked online
Mental Health Week BBQ - Murgon
- The STaY (Sit, Talk and Yarn) program will be holding a free Mental Health Week community awareness event this morning in conjunction with the Murgon RSL Sub-Branch. There'll be a free barbecue and coffee available. The morning will get under way at 10:00am at the Murgon RSL Welfare Drop-In Centre at 44 Stephens Street West, Kingaroy. Guest speakers will also share information about local services. RSVP for catering purposes by October 17.
Moore Hall Markets
- The monthly Moore Markets will be held outside the Moore Soldiers Memorial Hall off the D'Aguilar Highway in Moore from 7:00am to around 12:00 noon today. The markets are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month and feature hand painted china; hand made jewellery; hand crafted dolls; quilts; biscuit tin banjos; jade; wooden toys; delightful handmade bags; plants; bric-a-brac; antiques and collectables; tea cosies; baby clothes; tea towels; candles; soaps; cakes; jams and pickles, and more. There's also great brekkies available inside the Hall, and everyone is welcome!
Yarraman Men's Shed

- The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday between 7:30am and 12:30pm to work on projects and new members are always welcome!
Nanango Men's Shed
- The Nanango Men's Shed at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathermore Lane, Nanango will be open from 8:30am to around noon today for its regular Saturday get-together. Proston Community Markets
- The monthly Proston Community Markets - organised by the Proston Show Society and held on the 3rd Saturday of each month - will be running at the QCWA Hall at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston from 8:00am to around noon this morning. Stalls feature everything from craftwork to baked goods and bric-a-brac, and are are always fun to browse. There'll also be a great BBQ breakfast. New stalls are welcome and fees are just $5!
Dave Lynch Junior Trio - Kingaroy
- The Dave Lynch Junior Trio will be performing at the Commercial Hotel, 167-169 Haly Street, Kingaroy, from 8:00pm this evening.
Saturday Cricket
- Round 2 of the local South Burnett senior competition will see Tingoora Huntsmen take on Wooroolin Warriors Blues at Tingoora Sportsground; Tingoora Mercenaries v Murgon Diggers at Taabinga State School; Nanango Scorpions v Tingoora Vikings at Allan Downie Sportsfields in Nanango; and Wondai Wolves v Kingaroy Services at Wondai Cricket Ground. These games are scheduled to start at 12:30pm. Day 2 of Round 3 of the Gympie A Grade competition, will see games continuing in Murgon and Kingaroy: Wooroolin Warriors v Gympie Valleys at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy; and Murgon Crusaders v Gympie Colts at Murgon Showgrounds. NB. The Goodchild Shield game is at Murgon Showgrounds on Sunday.

The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join.
