South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Relay For Life - Kingaroy
The South Burnett's 2024 Relay For Life event - a fundraiser for Cancer Council Queensland - will be held at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 2:00pm to around 10:00pm today. The opening ceremony will start at 2:00pm and there will be entertainment to encourage the walkers to keep on going. The candlelight ceremony which honours friends and relatives who have succumbed to cancer will be held at 6:30pm. The closing ceremony will be held at 10:00pm. Everyone is welcome to come along to cheer the walkers on and enjoy the event, and there's no admission (though donations for the Relay are always appreciated).
Manumbar Settlement 100th Anniversary
Manumbar residents will be marking the 100th anniversary of the settlement from 10:00am until late today at the Manumbar Community Hall, 3873 Manumbar Road. There'll be vintage cars, motorbikes and machinery as well as draught horse demonstrations, woodchopping, market stalls and memorabilia for sale. There'll be a barbecue running all day, coffee van and ice-creams. A licensed bar will open an noon. An old-time dinner/dance will be held in the hall from 7:30pm tonight ($10 dance ticket, $25 for roast dinner plus dance - book by September 30 to 0407-170-747). Parking will be across the road at the campdraft grounds. Camping is available for $10 a night. NB. No mobile phone reception, so no EFTPOS (cash only). South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway will roar into life at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy tonight with its first meeting of the season, named in honour of a much-loved volunteer, Steven Wheeler, who died tragically earlier this year in a road crash. Tonight's meeting will feature Modified Sedans, Production Sedans, Street Stocks, Juniors, National 4s and AMCA Nationals. There'll be canteen facilities operating on site, and campsites are available in the Showgrounds if you want to stay over. Gates will open at 2:00pm, racing will start at 4:00pm and the excitement will continue until around 10:30pm tonight. Admission is $30 for adults, $20 for students (with ID) and aged or disability pensioners; or $85 for a family of two adults and two students (children 12 and under are free). Everyone is welcome!
Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Mystique and there'll be the usual supper and novelty dances, along with a Lucky Door draw and a raffle. Manumbar Hall 100th Anniversary Campdraft
The Manumbar Campdraft Association is holding an Encouragement Draft today at the campdraft grounds, at 3896 Manumbar Road, to coincide with the Manumbar Hall 100th Anniversary Day. There'll be Pony events from 7:00am followed by a Junior Draft from 9:30am, a Juvenile Draft and an Encouragement Draft. Breakfast and light refreshments will be available from 7:00am. More info? Wondai Goes Pink
A morning tea will be held at the Wondai Memorial Hall from 10:00am to 12;30pm today as part of fundraising activities for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Tickets are $20 which includes the morning tea and four guest speakers. Everyone is invited to wear as much pink as possible! Funds raised will support the McGrath Foundation and Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Kilkivan PBR Bullride
A PBR bullride will be held at the Kilkivan Showgrounds Indoor Arena today and tonight. Gates open at 4:00pm for a western market (shop all things western!) with the challenger bullride at 5:00pm and the main event at 7:00pm. There'll also be an after party with DJ Jake until midnight. A licensed bar will be running, hot food for sale as well as ice creams and cold drinks. Camping is available. Tickets ($50 for adults or $25 for children aged 10-17) can be booked online
Nanango Men's Shed
The Nanango Men's Shed at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathermore Lane, Nanango will be open from 8:30am to around noon today for its regular Saturday get-together. Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
South Burnett Wheelchair Basketball is played every Saturday from 10:00am to noon during school terms at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon. All equipment is provided but participants must wear enclosed shoes and bring a water bottle. Wheelchair basketball is an all-abilities game and everyone is invited to come along and have a go!
Mr Q - Yarraman

Kingaroy Men's Shed
The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Saturday Cricket
UPDATED The South Burnett Junior Cricket competition gets under way for 2024-25 this morning. In Stage 2, Murgon Crusaders will play Nanango Scorpions at Murgon Showgrounds; and Kingaroy will take on Tingoora Vikings at Taabinga State School in Kingaroy. In Stage 3, Kingaroy will face Nanango Scorpions at the River Road ground, Kingaroy. Games start at 8:00am. In Round 3 of the Gympie A Grade competition, the two South Burnett teams will be in action on home turf today. Wooroolin Warriors v Valleys at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy; and Murgon Crusaders v Gympie Colts at Murgon Showgrounds. Both games start at 12:30pm.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their building at 5-23 Rodney Street, Proston from 9:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The Men's Shed opens on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and new members are always very welcome! More details? Phone the Men's Shed on 0477-235-429.
Night Rodeo - Bell
There'll be bulls and broncs at the Night Rodeo being held today at the Bell Showgrounds in Wallace Street. Gates open at 3:30pm with the action starting at 5:00pm. Points from tonight's rides will go towards the National Rodeo Association competition. Entry is $20 with children Under 15 free. Food, drinks and a licensed bar will be running. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday between 7:30am and 12:30pm to work on projects and new members are always welcome!
Yarraman Horse Ride
The 25km Yarraman Horse Ride will depart from the Yarraman Showgrounds on the New England Highway south-west of Yarraman at 8:00am this morning for a guided ride around the Yarraman district. Riders need to pre-book for the ride and the BBQ meal ($40 per adult or $25 per child). The ride will be preceded by a pre-ride talk at 7:30am. Tonight there'll also be a $25 per person spit roast dinner available at the Showgrounds. Open Garden - Goodger
An Open Garden will be held at 391 Haly Creek Road, Goodger, from 9:00am to 3:30pm today and tomorrow. Apart from a beautiful garden, the event will also feature craft and plant stalls. Entry fee is $5 with funds supporting the Kumbia Memorial Hall.
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January.
