The South Burnett Lively 50s & 60s Singles Social Group will be holding a Karaoke Christmas Night with the Love2Sing Band at the Tingoora Hotel on the Bunya Highway at Tingoora from 5:45pm until late this evening. Everyone is welcome to this fun night of singing and dancing, though, and if you don't want dinner then just come a bit later. More details? Bookings? End Of The World?
Some people think today is supposed to be the end of the world because today is the day the ancient Mayan Long Calendar comes to an end. However, JJJ's Dr Karl worked out earlier this year that this calculation failed to take into account the Western world's move from the Julian to the Gregoran calendar in 1582 - and in that case, the world was actually supposed to end on December 7th (and didn't). In reality, the Mayan Long Calendar simply counts "eras" of about 5,125 years. So all that will happen today is that we'll move from the Mayan "fourth world" into a "fifth world" (ie a new era) - but otherwise, things will largely be just the same as they've always been. However you can pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate the new era if you wish - perhaps while you read more about all of this on Wikipedia.
Friday Social Golf - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy will holding their regular Friday 9-ers 9 hole social golfing sessions for men and women from 8:00am until dusk today. Everyone is most welcome (including non-members) and green fees are $11 for members or $14 for non-members for the nine holes - but this also includes a card draw for prizes in the clubhouse in the evening (there's also a Jackpot card draw on the last Friday of each month). More details? Phone the Golf Club on (07) 4162-1720
Endeavour Foundation Bingo - Kingaroy
The Endeavour Foundation will be holding bingo games at Kingaroy RSL from 10:00am this morning. More than $1,000 in jackpots will be on offer. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
