A highlight of last week’s bowls line-up was the Burnett Ladies Singles championships, which were held at Nanango.
As our community’s elected representative, honours are often given to Members of Parliament to officiate at major ceremonies and events. But no higher honour has been given to me in my three years in this role than being chosen to address the Anzac Day Dawn Service in Nanango.
What a great week it has been – plenty of Anzac Day action, and plenty of movement on the club championships’ scoreboard, along with quite a bit of club rivalry fuelled by inter-club visits.
Ninety-four men from Yarraman and surrounding districts enlisted in World War I … 20 did not return. These are amazing figures when you realise the population of the town at the time was just 350 people.
