The regional pennants competition was played at Nanango last Saturday and Kingaroy last Sunday, with teams from Yarraman, Nanango, Wondai, Murgon and Kingaroy taking part.

Each club was represented with teams of four players (Kingaroy had two teams) and scoring was 2 for a match win and 1 for a rink win, giving 4 points per game.

After the first day’s play, Kingaroy A were the leaders followed by Murgon, Nanango, Yarraman, Kingaroy B and Wondai.

But after the first game on Sunday, Nanango took over the lead from Kingaroy A, only to go down in the last game to Kingaroy B.

Meanwhile, Kingaroy A had a win over Murgon

At the end of competition, the final standings were:

  • Kingaroy A – 15pts
  • Nanango – 11.5pts
  • Kingaroy B – 11pts
  • Wondai – 10pts
  • Murgon 9.5pts
  • Yarraman – 5pts

Long-time members of Kingaroy Bowls Club Phil and Maureen Kemp have decided to retire and take up residence on Bribie Island.

But they decided to sponsor a bowls day to allow them to say goodbye to the many friends they have made over the years, and it was held last Wednesday.

As expected, a good number of bowlers attended the day to send Phil and Maureen off in style.

Pairs and Fours matches were was played, but they were purely a sidelight.

Not a lot to report from Yarraman this week – two teams were away on the weekend for the first round of Men’s Pennants and some players were visiting other clubs for matches.

Ladies Club Day on Wednesday featured one game of 21 ends, with scoring one for an end two points for the win.

  • Winners: Jenny Moore, Nev Lawrence and Wayne Emms def. Kay Dugdell, John Moore and Yvonne Schultz 27-15 (16-7)
  • Runners-Up: Glenda Wolski, Kev Profke and Lola Harper def. Robyn Diercke and Alison Anderson 17-15 (13-10)

On Yarraman’s Blackboard:

  • Wednesday: Ladies Trophy Day 10:00am
  • Wednesday: Men’s Self Select over 18 ends – 1:00pm

The weather nearly turned on a White Christmas for patron Ron Glover’s Christmas In July Day last Tuesday. It was quite chilly for the start of play.

Players came from as far away as Yarraman and Blackbutt, enjoying Christmas Dinner at the lunchtime break.

The winners were Bill Edwards, Kathy Hill and Phyllis Coffee who defeated Neville Lawrence (Yarraman) Dave Scott and Terry Pratten 17 -15.

The Runners Up – with the lowest winning margin – were Noel Lanes, Harold Alford and Nelly Herbert who defeated Jenny Edwards, Wendy Smith and Keith Carroll (Yarraman) 17-8.

Other results were Tracey Evans, John B and Sharon Walker who defeated Margaret Worrall Ernie Herbert and Kelly Charters 24-9; and Jeff Welden, John Worrall and Darrell Coffee who defeated Tony Gray, Ian Smith and Liz Frawley.

In Men’s Triples, Lester Bechly, Jamie Mitchell and Leigh Irwin defeated Harold Alford, Jeff Welden and Noel Lanes 16-13 in a very tight match.

And in the Ladies B Singles, Fay Vicary defeated Kim Donovan 17-25

Kilcoy went down last Saturday to a very good Bribie Island team in the Men’s Pennant competition, and this weekend they were playing away at Caboolture Lakes.

Some of the Kilcoy Ladies also went to Scarborough to compete in the Brisbane North District challenge against the Caboolture District.

A great time was had by all, even though they wound up going down by seven points.
