Chris and Ann Seng, from Kingaroy, with one of Ann’s entries in the “Battle Of The Quilts” … this large quilt took “eight or nine” months to complete

July 10, 2026

The Kingaroy and Wondai art galleries have both turned their walls over to craft activities this month … yes, winter is a good time to stay at home and make things!

On Friday night, Cr Danita Potter officially opened the second instalment of the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery’s two-month Queensland Winter Craft Festival.

The main and front galleries are filled with the 20 entries in the “Battle Of The Quilts” competition, which has a $500 first prize.

The winner will be decided by People’s Choice (drop into the gallery to vote!) and will be announced at 10:30am on Sunday, July 19.

The winner of a raffled quilt, donated by the Voodoo Sistas, will also be announced.

All proceeds from this raffle – about $700 has been raised so far – are going to the South Burnett Support Alliance which organises the free Wednesday night meals in Kingaroy.

About an hour later, South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff opened Wondai Regional Art Gallery’s July exhibitions.

The nine members of the Tangled Threads textile art group have taken over the front and main galleries, including wallhangings, mixed media artworks and, yes, quilts.

Mayor Duff was wearing a pink quilted creation created by Tangled Threads artist Ruth Wagner, who also had pieces the walls.

The Queensland Winter Craft Festival will continue at the Kingaroy Gallery until July 28.

The Wondai exhibitions will be on display until 3:00pm on Saturday, August 1.

Entry to both galleries is free.
