A morning tea was held in Kingaroy on Thursday morning to mark the 50th anniversary of Probus in Australia.

The Kingaroy Probus Club began 26 years ago, and three of the founding members – Ron and Jeanette Knopke, and Val Garrett – were present at the morning tea and cut the birthday cake.

Special guests who attended via videolink were Probus Queensland vice-president Mark Illingworth and Probus South Pacific Qld representative Caroline Nelson.

South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff congratulated the Kingaroy Club members on the anniversary.

Probus is a community service of Rotary.

It provides a social outlet and activities for active members of the community who are no longer working full-time.

There are more than 150 Probus clubs in Queensland with about 11,000 members.

The Kingaroy club, which has about 60 members, meets on the first Tuesday of every month in the Town Hall Reception Room in Glendon Street, Kingaroy.
