Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington officially opened St John’s Lutheran School’s new multi-million dollar “T Block” for Year 6 students at a small celebration at the school last week.
Principal Ruth Ferguson said it was another very exciting milestone in the continuing story of St John’s, but was much more than just the opening of a building.
“It’s about possibility,” she said. “It’s about creating spaces in which young people can learn, question, create, collaborate and grow.”
She said T Block consisted of three purpose-built Year 6 classrooms, creating a dedicated learning precinct for the school’s senior primary students.
“Year 6 is an important year in a person’s educational journey,” Mrs Ferguson said.
“These students are our leaders of our primary school. They are beginning to experience greater independence and responsibility while preparing for the significant transition to secondary school.”
Mrs Ferguson thanked former principal Karyn Bjelke-Petersen for the vision, planning and commitment which had made T Block possible.
Pastor Jordan Bennett dedicated and blessed the new building and read a congratulatory letter from Lutheran Queensland Bishop, Pastor Mark Vainikka.
The State Government contributed $1.28 million towards the new building but Mrs Frecklington acknowledged that was “probably a drop in the ocean to what your (school) council and community contributed”.
