An appeal has been lodged in the Planning and Environment Court against a decision by the South Burnett Regional Council to reject a Development Permit for a 24-hour truckstop in Nanango.
Council knocked back the application at its July meeting after receiving a direction from the State Assessment and Referral Agency (SARA).
The project would have included hi-flow diesel bowsers, truck parking spaces and an above-ground diesel tank.
Entry to the site would have been via dual entrances off Henry Street.
Liberty Amber Custodian Company Pty Ltd has named both the SBRC and SARA in its appeal, which was filed with the court on August 19.
The company claims SARA erred in its assessment of the application, saying its proposal could have been “conditioned” to overcome the objections raised by SARA.
SARA claimed the proposed development did not protect the safety of users of the State-controlled road (Henry Street / D’Aguilar Highway); would increase the likelihood or frequency of accidents; and would affect the functional requirements of the road.
Liberty Amber says the development would not impede traffic and the proposed site layout could be conditioned to achieve safe and efficient entry and exit.
Earlier this year, local residents organised a petition against the proposed development at 17 Henry Street.
