South Burnett artist Julie Tomlinson has works in Gallery 3 at Wondai … her work “At Dawn” was voted People’s Choice winner on opening night; the artwork, which honours her family’s military service, is deeply personal as she has incorporated her father’s ashes into a section of the artwork

The results of a unique challenge to create an artwork every week – and document the process – are at the Wondai Regional Art Gallery this month.

The “Artists Of Crows Nest” group created a 20-week challenge for their members in 2022. The artists received their artistic task by email on a Sunday and then had a week to create it as well as craft an entry in an A5 journal to complement the process.

In 2025, they did it again – with some new members in their ranks – for 15 weeks.

The mystery tasks challenged the artists to try new styles, tempted out of their comfort zones.

The outcome of the 28 artists’ challenge tasks and colourful journals have taken over Wondai’s Main Gallery for May.

In the front gallery, artists Kay Vidler and Meg Stevenson have “Clay And Glass”, ie pottery works and glass art.

Kay describes her self as an “old school potter” who has been experimenting recently with different clays and different glazes.

Meg has also been experimenting, this time with glass, and “just having fun” with her glass creations.

South Burnett artist Julie Tomlinson has deeply personal works in Gallery 3, exploring life and emotions.

Her Anzac-themed work “At Dawn” was named People’s Choice winner on opening night on May 1.

Works by students from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Murgon are in Kidz Korner.

The exhibitions will remain on display until 3:00pm on May 30.

The gallery is open from 10:00am to 3:00pm, seven days a week. Entry is free.
