Kellie Schulz, from Kingaroy, with her uncle Alwyn Litzow, from Wondai … Alwyn came up with the idea of the bowls day as a fundraiser for the Eagles

July 4, 2025

An unusual fundraiser – with a special dual purpose – was held at the Wondai Bowls Club last Saturday.

The Alwyn Litzow Bowls Day was organised by Alwyn and his family members to raise funds for the South Burnett Eagles’ junior rugby league teams.

But Alwyn also had an “ulterior motive” … to show the young people involved that lawn bowls can be a lot of fun and isn’t just a sport for retired folk.

Alwyn’s daughter, rugby league volunteer Renita Olsen, said her father had always wanted to hold a junior sports day at the Wondai Country Club to encourage young people to play bowls.

“At the same time, he could raise funds for junior sport,” Renita said.

Eagles’ players, their friends and family members shared a barbecue lunch as well as having fun on the greens.

The “grannies and grandpas” who turned out for the bowls day included Parker Cooke, Rhianon Braithwaite, Addison Cooke, Montana Preston, Lawson Braithwaite, Darren Andersen and Charli Whitbread
