OLD LOCATION: The Red Ant sculpture outside the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre

June 5, 2025

Kingaroy’s popular Red Ant sculpture has been moved along Haly Street to a new spot outside the museum building.

The sculpture was an entry in the 2019 Kingaroy Sculpture Prize.

It was later acquired by Council for its regional collection and mounted outside the Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street.

The work was created by Gold Coast artists Andrew Cullen and Dion Parker from steel and wire.

A Council spokesperson said the sculpture had been moved to give it “more promotion and visibility”.

An overhead spotlight will highlight the artwork at night.

The move was funded by the State Government’s “Works 4 Queensland” program.

  1. I’m sorry, but that’s not how you display a sculpture! It’s visually jarring and does the work no justice. Please remove the Bunnings pool fence.

  2. I drove past yesterday and was shocked to see the sculpture is facing the wall.

This is like flying a flag upside down. Please, can this be rectified?

The current situation is an embarrassing oversight that diminishes both the artwork and its intended impact.
