A consortium consisting of industry, tourism and council representatives will take over operations of the beleaguered Queensland College of Wine Tourism.
The State Government announced on Thursday the consortium would be led by the Stanthorpe and Granite Belt Chamber of Commerce, with representatives from:
- Granite Belt Wine and Tourism
- Granite Belt Growers Association
- Queensland Country Tourism
- Queensland Wine Industry Association, and
- Southern Downs Regional Council
The State Government will support the transition period over the next two years with seed funding.
The college had been operating since 2007, delivering accredited training in Hospitality, Wine Industry Operations and Commercial Cookery as well as short courses to support skills across the wine tourism industry.
Its future looked bleak late last year after its partnership with the University of Southern Queensland ended.
However, the State Government stepped in during last December to throw a lifeline to the college before new arrangements could be organised.
