South Burnett Regional Council will be holding a public consultation meeting at QEII Park in Lamb Street, Murgon on Monday morning (December 5).

Mayor Brett Otto, Councillors and SBRC staff will be seeking opinions about a draft Master Plan to remodel the park and upgrade its facilities.

Highlights of the plan include the removal of several fig trees and obsolete park benches in favour of new sheltered seating.

Pathways through the park would also be upgraded, and the rotunda would receive a facelift to give the building a more contemporary look.

Gardens will be replanted in several places and lawns will be upgraded.

A permanent mount will also be created for the town’s Christmas Tree which will be able to be used for other purposes – possibly art displays – during the rest of each year.

The existing Visitor Information Centre and toilet block would also be retained, but both are likely to receive upgrades to provide more connection to the park and help reduce opportunities for vandalism, and CCTV will be installed to improve park security.

Pending community agreement, the Council propose to carry out the upgrade in stages with initial works at the western end of the park.

Monday’s meeting will be held between 9:00am and noon.

Residents who are unable to attend in person can submit their views through an online community survey.

The online survey will accept submissions until Friday, December 9.
