Murgon and Cherbourg police are investigating a number of break-ins which have occurred in the region over the past week.

At 8:55am on October 25, unknown people entered a small courtyard at the back of house in Collins Road, Cherbourg, and then manipulated a security door lock to gain access inside.

They rummaged about through a lower floor before taking a sheet off a clothesline in the rear.

They then set fire to a curtain hanging on a window next to the back door. The fire damaged the curtain, the window frame, several glasses louvres and the sheet.

Between 6:30pm on October 29 and 8:00am on October 30, thieves broke into a business in Gore Street, Murgon, via a security screen and a glass window before accessing a safe within the office.

About the same time,  a window of a business in Taylor Street, Murgon, was smashed. It is unknown if any property was stolen but grey and white graffiti was painted along a fence, a wall and a container.

Between 3:30pm on October 28 and 7:30am on October 31, would-be thieves entered St Joseph’s Primary School in Angel Avenue, conducted a search, opened drawers, emptied bags containing school uniforms on to the floor, and let off fire extinguishers.

At 9:17am on October 27, a vehicle light bar, a solar panel attached to a roof rack, a Kings awning and a roof rack were stolen from a property in Chinchilla-Wondai Road, Ballogie. Investigations are continuing.

A 29-year-old Kingaroy woman will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on November 22 charged with possessing a dangerous drug and failing to properly dispose of a syringe. This followed a police search of a vehicle stopped about 12:30am on October 24 in Gore Street, Murgon, which allegedly located methylamphetamine and three hypodermic needles and syringes.

At 10:00pm on October 25, someone turned off the power to a house in Angel Avenue, Murgon. They also tried to open a vehicle before running off. Investigations are continuing.

At 8:00pm on Saturday, police were called to a house in Stephens Street, Murgon, after reports of a disturbance. During the course of the investigation, it is alleged  police located a modified bolt action rifle and various rounds of ammunition. A 62-year-old Murgon man has been charged with possessing a  shortened firearm, unlawful possession of weapons and authority required to possess explosives (ammunition). He is due to appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on November 8.

About 8:45pm on Sunday, the rear windows of two vehicles were smashed in Macalister Street, Murgon. A mallet was found nearby. Investigations are continuing into the matter.
