Murgon could get a new tourist attraction if an idea floated by the Murgon Business and Development Association takes off.

The group unveiled a suggested design to decorate the Murgon water tower at their breakfast meeting held at the Royal Hotel last Thursday.

MBDA president Leo Geraghty said the design, which features a scene from Bjelke-Petersen Dam, was painted by local artist Quentin Morris.

The Murgon water tower is located beside Lions Park and the Murgon Golf Course on the southern side of town.

Leo said the design would go right around the tower, with the kangaroo facing towards the golf course.

“We’re just putting the idea out to gather people’s feelings,” Leo said.

“We’d like to get feedback from the community.”

Artworks have been appearing on water towers and silos throughout Australia in recent years.

The best known is probably the Silo Art Trail in rural Victoria but there has also been an explosion of colour in Queensland, including water tanks at Mundubbera and Bribie Island.

Leo said the Murgon water tank belonged to the South Burnett Regional Council.

He said if Council approved the project, the MBDA would apply for a grant to make it happen.
