Gympie Regional Council will conduct a drone survey of deep gorges and other difficult terrain along parts of Barambah and Boonara creeks to identify weed infestations.

The survey, which is being funded by the State Government, is due to begin mid-year and will identify infestations of rubber vine and honey locust along a total of about 70km of creek banks.

A weeds contractor will then be engaged to treat any areas identified.

The drone survey is part of the larger Barambah and Boonara Weed Control Project.

In 2018, the Burnett Catchment Care Association (BCCA) obtained a Community Sustainability Action Grant to collaborate with Gympie Council to monitor weed infestation levels in Barambah and Boonara creeks and sections of Moonda Waamba Creek.

Spraying has already begun, targeting parthenium.

The project will also include monitoring of the treatment areas and landholder and community education.
