Yarding numbers were just shy of 1000 and prices eased across most descriptions except heavier export cattle at Tuesday’s fortnightly cattle sale in Murgon

Murgon Agents yarded just under 1000 for the fortnightly cattle sale on Tuesday, April 10.

This was an increase of 100 head over the previous sale.

The market was easier throughout with the exception of heavier export cattle, which remained fairly firm.

Cattle were drawn from Crownthorpe, Redgate, Coringa, Manumbar, Hivesville, Proston and locally.

Sale results:

  • Heavy Bulls sold to $2.62/kg and $2330
  • Bullocks topped at $2.77/kg for $1800
  • Cows over 500kg sold to $2.35/kg and $1470, averaging $2.21/kg
  • Cows 400–500kg averaged $2.05/kg, topping at $1050
  • Cows under 400kg sold to $1.95/kg
  • Charolais cross steers from the Ward family of Crownthorpe sold for $3.00/kg to return $1695
  • 2 pens of Charbray steers from K Cummings of Coringa sold for $1230 and $2.85/kg, and $983 at $2.90/kg (338 kg)
  • Red Angus steers weighing 472kg from W & K Sippel of Redgate sold for $1340 at $2.85/kg
  • 2 pens of Angus cross steers from Manumbar sold for $1320 ($2.82 & 468kg) and $1220 ($2.82 & 432kg)
  • 373kg Charolais cross steers from K Grimes of Proston sold for $1070 and $2.87/kg
  • 2 pens of Santa weaner steers from the Armitage Family Trust sold for $3.35/kg ($776.00) and $3.08/kg ($763.00)
  • Local Charbray heifers sold to $1110 at $2.58/kg
  • 330kg Santa cross heifers from Proston sold for $890 at $2.69/kg
  • Weaner heifers topped at $2.78/kg and $771, with most selling in the $2.55-$2.65/kg bracket
  • Droughtmaster cross weaner heifers from the Steinhardt family of Hivesville sold for $2.68/kg, returning $771

The next fortnightly Murgon cattle sale is on Tuesday, April 24 at 8:00am.
