650 cattle were yarded in Murgon on Tuesday, January 16 for the first sale of 2018.

Values for all descriptions were slightly easier on the previous sale last December, though not by much.

Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Mt Perry, Gayndah, Kingaroy, Nanango and the Murgon district.

Sale results:

  • Heavy bulls sold to $2.55 c/kg for a top of $2630
  • Brahman steers averaging 493 kg sold to $2.78/kg
  • Export heifers sold to $2.79/kg and $1220
  • Heavy cows over 500kg averaged $2.15/kg, topping at $2.28/kg and $1410
  • Cows 400–500kg sold to $2.12/kg
  • Very few cows under 400kg were yarded and topped at $1.95/kg
  • Brahman steers from Murgon averaging 407kg sold for $1145.00 at $2.81/kg
  • A line of 64 Droughtmaster milk and 2 tooth steers from Myora Pastoral of Johnstown sold to $3.09/kg, averaging $2.92/kg and $994
  • 2 pens of local Gelvieh steers sold for $3.02/kg, returning $1186 and $1003
  • Hereford steers averaging 325kg from Proston sold for $3.07/kg, returning $998
  • Two pens of Santa weaner steers from G & T Campbell of Paradise Dam sold  for $861 ($3.19) and $760 ($3.49)
  • Droughtmaster cross weaner steers from D. Williams of Gayndah sold for $825 at $3.30/kg
  • 412 kg Charbray heifers from Merlwood sold for $2.71/kg for $1119
  • 330 kg Gelvieh heifers from Murgon sold to $2.91/kg for $965
  • Droughtmaster cross heifers weighing 320 kg from W & M Hankinson sold for $898 at $2.80/kg
  • 230 kg Santa weaner heifers from the Campbell Family sold for $3.17/kg to return $735
  • Droughtmaster weaner heifers from G. Monaghan of Redgate sold for $603 at $2.99/kg
  • Brangus cows and calves sold to $1400
