Police Minister Mark Ryan

Police Minister Mark Ryan has accused the LNP of being “in disarray” over Queensland gun laws.

In October last year, Member for Gympie Tony Perrett crossed the floor in Parliament to vote against his party by supporting a motion to block introducing tougher restrictions on high-capacity lever-action shotguns.

And last week, Mr Perrett accused the Labor Party of having an agenda to introduce tighter restrictions on Queensland gun owners.

Mr Perrett’s comments were in response to criticism by Mr Ryan of a video showing Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Mander, made before last year’s election.

Mr Ryan said Mr Mander had suggested he wanted “less regulation”, was “very open-minded” and an “open canvas” about Queensland gun laws.

However, Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington has expressed her support for Queensland’s current gun laws.

Mr Ryan accused the LNP of  “flip flopping” over gun laws and claimed the party was insincere about supporting the National Firearms Agreement.

“Our gun laws are just too important to the safety of all Queenslanders to have them jeopardised by the LNP’s infighting and confusion,” Mr Ryan said.
