Landcare and community groups have been invited to apply for “Healthy Habitat” grants totalling $292,000 and “Keeping it Great” grants totalling $108,000 to help care for the region’s natural environment and support sustainable agriculture.

Keeping it Great grants of up to $20,000 are also available for groups and individuals to undertake on-ground works such as protecting threatened species habitat and controlling weeds and pest animals to enhance significant vegetation.

The grants are part of the Federal Government’s National Landcare Program which is being managed locally by the Burnett Mary Regional Group.

“This is a great opportunity for local communities to tackle important on-ground works aimed at addressing local natural resource management priorities,” Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt said.

“Through these grants communities are invited to deliver simple, local and long-term solutions to improve the productivity of their land and their local environment.”

Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said that by getting involved, Landcare groups, farmers and community organisations working in natural resource management could help ensure the grant program was used to its maximum benefit, targeting local and regional priorities.
