Agriculture Minister John McVeigh has welcomed the appointees of the new Horticulture Industry Development Group at its first quarterly meeting today.

“This important group will work with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to progress issues relating to the future prosperity of the Queensland horticulture sector,” Mr McVeigh said.

“The Newman Government is committed to the goal of doubling food production in Queensland by 2040.

“By bringing together industry teams such as the Horticulture IDG we are laying the groundwork for a more productive future in Queensland.

“The Horticulture IDG will also oversee the delivery of the $500,000 Horticulture Workforce Plan election commitment.

“The membership includes industry leaders and successful horticulture business people who understand the issues and challenges for this sector.

“This will ensure a strong business approach to growing the horticulture industry.

“The Horticulture IDG will be led by Mr Selwyn Snell, a highly respected member of the industry.

“As an independent chair, Mr Snell will be responsible for facilitating actions and activities that meet key industry needs.”

Minister McVeigh said the members had been appointed for a two-year term. They include:
