Madison Kilgour, 16, hoping to become Miss Country Girl 2012

October 9, 2012

Kingaroy teenager Madison Kilgour has high hopes of becoming Australia’s next modelling sensation.

Madison, 16, will be competing in the local round of the Miss Country Girl Australia modelling pageant which will be held at Kingaroy Shoppingworld this week.

Miss Country Girl is a national modelling search focused on rural/regional areas.

Organisers say contestants are given the opportunity to transform themselves from a country town girl to a superstar.

“We are looking for people who want to enter the entertainment industry,” national director Katie Jones said.

“The event aims to connect with a regional audience by giving young local talent an opportunity to pursue their dreams. Each event is an entertaining opportunity for the community to congregate and support their local youth.”

National finalists are chosen through regional events.

Competitors in the Kingaroy round will be modelling down the catwalk at Shoppingworld this week, competing for a range of prizes and awards:

  • Heat 1 – Thursday,  October 11 at 6:00pm
  • Heat 2 – Saturday,  October 13 at 10:00am
  • Final – Saturday, October 13,  at 11:30am

Contestants can enter online.

They will be competing in two categories:

  • Miss Country Girl Junior Champion for the Region – for 8 to 12-year-old girls
  • Miss Country Girl Australia –  for 13 to 28-year-old girls.  Regional winners will be invited to participate at the national final where they will compete to be crowned Miss Country Girl Australia 2012.

The competition was begun in 2009 by Ms Jones.

Her vision was to provide a platform for country girls to connect with industry professionals and to give them further opportunities.

“I know what it’s like growing up as a country girl and the struggles you may face when trying to enter the modelling or entertainment industry so I decided to reach out and help by taking the competition to them,” she said.

“We see young girls participating in the competition to build their confidence through the catwalk and deportment classes along with interacting with other contestants, making friends, and opening their minds to new and exciting opportunities. This is a fun and friendly competition with no experience needed.

“We are so excited to be scouting your region and we cannot wait to meet all of the local girls. We would like to say a huge thank you to the team at Kingaroy Shoppingworld for inviting us to Kingaroy and allowing us to give this amazing opportunity to you all.”
