The Southern Queensland Country Regional Food Network – a joint project of local councils, the Regional Tourism organisation and the State Government – has voted to become an incorporated association.

This follows a series of “shed meetings” to gauge interest from rural producers held throughout the Southern Queensland Country region over the past 12 months, including a meeting in Kingaroy last November.

The network is for farmers who are looking to find an alternative market for their produce and who are considering selling their products locally or to visitors within the region.

It is also for farmers who wish to sell their produce to businesses in the local food service, manufacturing, tourism and hospitality sectors.

Regional Tourism Development Officer Jules McMurtrie said a Board had been appointed and a “trading portal” was under development.

More information will be available at the next round of shed meetings. These will be held at:

  • Toowoomba – October 4 (noon-2:00pm) and October 31 (noon-2:00pm) at the Queensland Government Conference Room, 203 Tor St, Toowoomba
  • Warwick – October 3 (4:00pm-6:00pm) and October 30 (noon-2:00pm) at the Queensland Government Conference Room, 25 Guy St, Warwick
  • Stanthorpe – October 3 (noon-2:00pm) and October 30 (6:00pm-7:30pm) at the Applethorpe Research Station, New England Highway, Applethorpe
