Former Agforce President Peter Kenny

August 9, 2012

One of Queensland’s most respected agricultural industry advocates has been remembered with the announcement of the Peter Kenny Bursary in Brisbane last night at the Queensland Red Meat Awards.

The memorial bursary, which will provide up to $10,000 to the successful applicant, was created by AgForce Queensland to honour Peter’s contribution to the rural sector and communities.

Mr Kenny commenced his career as a teacher working in rural and remote regions of Queensland before managing and owning agricultural enterprises. During this time he actively participated in agricultural industry groups which lead him to become AgForce General President.

He died of cancer in October last year.

AgForce General President Brent Finlay said the bursary would recognise Mr Kenny’s commitment to ongoing learning and education in agriculture.

“Peter was not only passionate about rural issues and representing the sector but also focused on ensuring the education of the next generation of primary producers,” Mr Finlay said.

“He was a highly respected AgForce president and the organisation is proud to honour his contribution and foster ongoing education through the Peter Kenny Bursary.”

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must:

  • Be turning 18 in 2013 and/or under 30 years of age as at 31 December 2013;
