Alcoholics Anonymous - Kingaroy
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experiences, strengths and hopes with each other to help solve their common problems and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership, and A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution. St Josephs Bingo - Murgon

The Proston Show Society's annual Proston Show Ball - the traditional curtain-raiser for the Proston Show being staged next Saturday, March 10th - will be held at Proston Town Hall in Proston from 8:00pm until late tonight. A feature of this fully licensed event will be the crowning of the senior and junior 2012 Rural Ambassador and Miss Showgirl. Friday Social Golf - Kingaroy

The Queensland Rail Bulls Masters are paying a flying visit to the South Burnett this weekend, and this evening they'll be special guests at a Sportsmans Evening at the Booie Bello Vista restaurant at the corner of Haydens and Schellbachs Roads at Booie which will get underway at 6:30pm. The dinner is a fundraiser for the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation and the $50 per head tickets include beer, wine and a roaming buffet. Today is the annual World Day of Prayer - an international, inter-denominational, inter-racial prayer movement held on the first Friday in March every year. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their second monthly exhibition for 2012 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm this evening. Tonight's exhibition will feature a range of artworks from the Wondai Art Group On Sundays in the main gallery;, Kingaroy artist Trish Erkens and others in the front gallery; a historical display of war memorabilia from the Wondai RSL in the rear gallery; and works by students from the Cloyna State School in Kidz Korner. Goomeri State School Centenary Dinner Dance
To wrap up today's Goomeri State School Centenary celebrations (see above), a fully licensed Dinner Dance will be held at the Goomeri Hall Of Memory from 5:30pm until around midnight this evening. The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. 54th Annual Bell Show & Rodeo
The first day of the weekend-long 54th Annual Bell Show and Rodeo will be held at Bell Showgrounds on the Bunya Highway between Kumbia and Dalby from 9:00am this morning when the first horse and ring events get underway right through until late tonight. Today's show will be running a full programme of agricultural show events and an all-day rodeo will be running tomorrow. Things to look out for this year include a a big spread of cattle and pavilion judging events; cattle dog trials; a great sideshow alley; a Queensland Title Woodchop where top axemen and women will battle it out for big prizes; a Tree Felling Championshipl a mighty Ute, Bikes and Classic Cars Muster that offers some equally great prizes over a wide range of categories; a fashion parade; a Vintage Cars, Trucks and Antique Machinery show; and lots and lots of free children's entertainment including face painting; a decorated bike and scooter competition; and a Pet Parade. There'll also be toe-tapping live entertainment in the evening from "Subject To Change" along with a BBQ, and a Horse Challenge under lights as well. The Show's Grand Parade and official opening will be held at around 2:30pm. Wondai Races
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their first Wondai Race Day meeting for 2012 at the Wondai race track from around 12:00 noon today (the first race leaves the barriers at 1:30pm). The theme of today's meeting is "Luck Of The Irish" and guests are encouraged to dress up in an Irish theme. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races (along with interstate betting fluctuations); a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar and a Punters Podium. There'll also be Lucky Race Book prizes of free betting vouchers; prizes for the best-dressed ladies and gents in a Fashions Of The Field competition; and amusements for children. Queensland Rail Bulls Masters Cricket Match - Murgon
The Queensland Rail Bulls Masters are paying a flying visit to the South Burnett this weekend and they'll be playing a cricket match at the Murgon Sporting Complex in Macalister Street, Murgon against a South Burnett Invitational XI at 2:30pm this afternoon (gates open at 10:00am). The match will be preceded by a children's coaching clinic between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Admission is $10 for adults and under-16s are free.

South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway will be roaring into action at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening with their second Speedway Spectacular for 2012. Tonight's meeting will feature contests between V8 Super Sedans, Modified Productions and Street Sedans - all in the no-holds-barred, smash-'em-up style of hi-octane thrills and spills racing that makes the South Burnett's Speedway such a crowd-pleaser. Gates will open at around 2:00pm and the first racers will slam their pedals to the metal at 4:00pm. As usual, a full bar and canteen facilities will be operating throughout and admission is $25 for adults, $15 for pensioners and students or $65 for a family pass (2 adults and up to 2 students). Dance - Inverlaw Hall

Goomeri State School P-10 Centenary
The Goomeri State School P-10 will be celebrating its Centenary today. The Centenary celebrations will be in the form of a school fete and this will get underway at 9:00am. The fete will feature a variety of stalls, classroom displays and demonstrations as well as class reunions. Entertainment will include performances by students, the school choir, whip-cracking demonstrations, displays by the school's equestrian team, music and food. There'll also be a display by Dreamtime Reptiles, children's rides, games from yesteryear and much much more! The first day of a weekend-long One Garden Divine Flower And Nature Essences Workshop will be held at Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai from 9:00am to 6:00pm today (the second - and final - day will be held at the same venue and times tomorrow). The second (and final) day of the weekend-long 54th Annual Bell Show and Rodeo will be held at Bell Showgrounds on the Bunya Highway between Kumbia and Dalby from 9:00am this morning until late this afternoon. The main Show activity that will be held today is the Bell Rodeo. The D'Aguilar Highway between Benarkin and Moore will be closed between 1:30pm and 2:30pm this afternoon for blasting as part the Dept. of Main Roads efforts to rebuild the road after the January 2011 floods. CANCELLED: This blasting program was cancelled by the Department on Friday 2nd March 2012 and will not occur today after all.

Australian Voices Concert - Kingaroy
The internationally acclaimed choral group Australian Voices will be performing a one-off South Burnett concert at St Mary's Catholic Church in Albert Street, Kingaroy at 6:30pm this evening. The 12th annual Maidenwell Folk Gathering will get underway around 6:00pm this evening at King's Hotel in Maidenwell, starting a weekend-long party that won't conclude until Sunday evening March 11th. 2012 Wine & Food In The Park Festival
The 14th annual Wine & Food In The Park Festival will be held at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am this morning through to 9:00pm tonight. The Festival - which has steadily grown to become the biggest single festival held in the South Burnett Regional Council's area as well as the region's most loved Autumn get-together - will feature all its regular attractions (such as the Giant Wine Tent, PCA Regional Food And Wine Tent, exotic Food Court, wet bar and a jam-packed program of live entertainment) along with several new things including an on-grounds Sample The South Burnett Wine Dinner with Master Of Wine Peter Scudamore-Smith and aerial acrobats (something never seen in the region before). Feature acts on the main stage for 2012 include the internationally renowned Mason Rack Band, the Jahbutu Calypso Band, The Blues Excuse, Bar Room Blues and the Kingaroy State High School Band. The Festival's popular (and usually outrageous!) street performers will also be wending their way through the crowds all day, and there'll also be carnival rides for children on the grounds too. This year there'll also be subsidised buses running from Blackbutt and Murgon to take South Burnett Festival-goers to Memorial Park and back home again, as well as a gold coin donation town bus to take Kingaroy revellers back to six different drop-off points around town (schedules for these can be found on the Festival's website). Admission in 2012 is $15 per head for adults (under-18s can get in for free!). And after the Festival winds down most local entertainment venues in Kingaroy will be holding post-WAFITP parties for revellers who want to carry on into the night. 16th Annual Yarraman Horse Ride
The Yarraman Agricultural Society's 16th Annual Yarraman Horse Ride will be held in and around Yarraman today. The Ride is the second-biggest in the region (the other is the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride, held each April) and this year's event has two routes: a long one of 30km and a shorter one of 20km with no stallions, rigs or dogs allowed on the course. The long ride will leave the Showgrounds at 7:30am and the short ride will move out at around 8:00am, with both returning to the Showgrounds at around 4:45pm. In the evening, the Ride will be followed by a programme of live entertainment led by popular local country-rock performer Arthur Nettelfield which will run from 7:00pm until around midnight, along with meals and a bar. 54th Annual Proston Show
The 54th annual Proston Show will be held at Proston Showgrounds from early this morning through until late tonight. The Proston Show is always a happy event at the western edge of South Burnett and today's activities will get underway at 8:00am with horse and prime cattle judging and the admission of Ute Muster entries. This will be followed at 8:30am with stud cattle judging and a Championship Dog Show; and then at 9:00am with show jumping, poultry judging and wood events. The Kingaroy Concerned Citizens Group and the Wide Bay Burnett Environmental Council will be hosting a special "Meet The Candudates Forum" at the Kingaroy RSL's Tobruk Room at 7:00pm this evening. The purpose of the forum is to allow Nanango electorate voters to find out how the different candidates standing for the seat in the up-coming State election regard issues like CSG and UCG mining, management of National Parks, protection of wildlife, sustainable water management and protection of the environment in general. Candidates who'll be speaking at tonight's forum include John Dalton (Independent), Grant Newson (Queensland Greens) and Carl Rackemann (Katter's Australian Party). Community Farewell For Dorothy Pratt MLA - Kingaroy
A Community Farewell for Dorothy (Dolly) Pratt MLA (pictured at right) will be held at Kingaroy RSL's Tobruk Room from 6:00pm to 8:00pm this evening to farewell the popular Member For Nanango who's represented a large part of the South Burnett in State Parliament for the last 14 years. Dolly was as born in Coffs Harbour and worked in a wide range of industries including nursing, cattle yards and operating a Kingaroy coffee shop prior to entering State politics. In 1998 she was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly as the member for Barambah representing Pauline Hanson's One Nation. But she left One Nation soon afterwards to sit as an independent. In 2001 her seat was abolished and largely replaced with Nanango (which she won as an independent and has held ever since). She's married with three children and signaled her intention to retire a little earlier this year. Tonight's event will be an opportunity to meet with Dorothy, to thank her, and to allow her to thank you for your support over the past 14 years. The doors will open at 6:00pm and savouries, drinks and tea/coffee will be served. At about 6:30pm locals will be invited to speak on Dorothy's past role, and at 7:00pm Dorothy will address the assembly herself. Everyone is very welcome to attend and admission is completely free. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening a particularly speciai art exhibition from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra at 6:00pm this evening. The exhibition - "Framing Conflict: Iraq And Afghanistan" - features 30 small paintings, 3 large paintings and two photographs taken by war artists Lyndell Brown and Charles Green, who were commissioned by the War Memorial in 2007 to tour the Middle East and Aghanistan and capture the experiences of Australian troops deployed there. Tonight's exhibition will also be complemented by a display of militaria from the Wondai RSL in the third gallery. Dress is after-five semi formal (guests can also wear medals if eligible) and in addition to finger foods, wines from Crane Wines will be available for tastings and purchases. 73rd Annual Goomeri Show
The 73rd annual Goomeri Show will get underway at the Goomeri Showgrounds at the corner of Laird Street and the Burnett Highway, Goomeri from around 8:00am this morning when cattle judging for stud beef and prime beef begins. This will be followed soon afterwards by a range of horse ring events including horse judging, showjumping, dressage and a hack show. This year the Goomeri Show will also be featuring its popular annual Championship Dog Show (BYO dog); a Ute Muster overseen by Queensland State Ute Chick Manda Stevens (BYO ute - entries accepted on site); a Celebrity Bake-Off at around 5:00pm; and the annual tug-o-war competition (anyone can enter - BYO team!). The Show will be officially opened at 2:30pm and this will be followed by the presentation of trophies at around 3:00pm and then by a Pet Parade at 3:35pm. Other things to watch out for this year include a great range of pavilion displays reflecting recent bumper harvesting seasons; a very large photographic display; a big Sideshow Alley; a lucerne hay competition; and a giant fireworks display at around 7:30pm. There'll also be lots of food and refreshment stalls operating all day and evening and a licensed bar running from 10:00am to 10:00pm. 2012 Queensland State Election
The 2012 Queensland State elections are being held today and all enrolled voters in the South Burnett are required to cast a vote for their chosen candidate in either the Nanango or Callide electorates (depending on where they live). Polling booths will be open in their usual locations all around the region from 8:00am to 6:00pm and some mobile polling booths will also be in operation. In Nanango, voters can get to choose between the LNP's Deb Frecklington, Independents John Dalton and David Thomson, Greens candidate Grant Newson, the ALP's Virginia Clarke or the Australian Party's Carl Rackemann. In Callide, the choice will be between incumbent LNP member Jeff Seeney; the ALP's Melissa Newton; Greens candidate Camilla Percy; independent candidate Scott Duncan or the Australian Party's Steve Ensby. The event has been organised by BIEDO as a way to bring a little stress relief into lives of rural women, and all ladies who attend will be given morning tea and lunch. They'll also be able to listen to some great guest speakers and there'll be lots of free information available about how to keep well, stay active and combat depression (amongst many other things). Over the last four years Pamper Days have proven to be an overwhelming success with more than 2100 women attending since 2007. All Mondure and district women are most welcome to come along!
