Goomeri State School P-10 Centenary
The Goomeri State School P-10 will be celebrating its Centenary today. The Centenary celebrations will be in the form of a school fete and this will get underway at 9:00am. The fete will feature a variety of stalls, classroom displays and demonstrations as well as class reunions. Entertainment will include performances by students, the school choir, whip-cracking demonstrations, displays by the school's equestrian team, music and food. There'll also be a display by Dreamtime Reptiles, children's rides, games from yesteryear and much much more! Souvenirs to celebrate the occasion will be available as well, and all past and present students, staff and their families are very welcome to attend and experience a wonderful opportunity to share memories and catch up with old friends. Goomeri State School Centenary Dinner Dance
To wrap up today's Goomeri State School Centenary celebrations (see above), a fully licensed Dinner Dance will be held at the Goomeri Hall Of Memory from 5:30pm until around midnight this evening. Apart from a great 2 course meal and supper there'll also be live music from the popular Ricochet Band. Tickets are $35 per head and prepaid bookings are absolutely essential to ensure correct catering. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Murgon SES Annual Golf Day
The Murgon SES Support Group will be staging their annual Murgon SES Golf Day at the Murgon Golf Club in Wondai Road, Murgon from 7:00am onwards this morning (tee-off is 7:00am sharp, so don't be late). Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by The Commodores and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a big Lucky Door draw. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowling Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Wondai Races
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their first Wondai Race Day meeting for 2012 at the Wondai race track from around 12:00 noon today (the first race leaves the barriers at 1:30pm). The theme of today's meeting is "Luck Of The Irish" and guests are encouraged to dress up in an Irish theme. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races (along with interstate betting fluctuations); a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar and a Punters Podium. There'll also be Lucky Race Book prizes of free betting vouchers; prizes for the best-dressed ladies and gents in a Fashions Of The Field competition; and amusements for children. Well-known Courier-Mail racing journalist and CROW-FM 90.7 tipster Nathan Exelby will also be appearing trackside as a special guest today. Free buses will be leaving from Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 11:00am; Kingaroy's Carrollee Hotel and the Golden Spurs Hotel in Proston at 11:30am; from the Hivesville Hotel at 11:40am; and from the Murgon Newsagency at 11:45am to take race-goers to the track. Hand Made In The Country Workshop - Kingaroy
A workshop to look at the future direction of the Hand Made In The Country program will be held at the Taste South Burnett Conference Room at 67 William Street in Kingaroy from 9:30am (when morning tea will be served) to 11:00am this morning. All interested people are welcome to attend, but to assist with catering you'll need to RSVP by email to Julie by Thursday 1st March 2012.
54th Annual Bell Show & Rodeo
The first day of the weekend-long 54th Annual Bell Show and Rodeo will be held at Bell Showgrounds on the Bunya Highway between Kumbia and Dalby from 9:00am this morning when the first horse and ring events get underway right through until late tonight. Today's show will be running a full programme of agricultural show events and an all-day rodeo will be running tomorrow. Things to look out for this year include a a big spread of cattle and pavilion judging events; cattle dog trials; a great sideshow alley; a Queensland Title Woodchop where top axemen and women will battle it out for big prizes; a Tree Felling Championshipl a mighty Ute, Bikes and Classic Cars Muster that offers some equally great prizes over a wide range of categories; a fashion parade; a Vintage Cars, Trucks and Antique Machinery show; and lots and lots of free children's entertainment including face painting; a decorated bike and scooter competition; and a Pet Parade. There'll also be toe-tapping live entertainment in the evening from "Subject To Change" along with a BBQ, and a Horse Challenge under lights as well. The Show's Grand Parade and official opening will be held at around 2:30pm. Flower And Nature Essences Workshop - Wondai
The first day of a weekend-long One Garden Divine Flower And Nature Essences Workshop will be held at Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai from 9:00am to 6:00pm today (the second - and final - day will be held at the same venue and times tomorrow). The workshop will cover all aspects of preparing plant essences and the cost - which includes morning and afternoon teas, lunch, a 200-page One Garden Reference Book and One Garden Divination Cards - is $120 per person. South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway will be roaring into action at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening with their second Speedway Spectacular for 2012. Tonight's meeting will feature contests between V8 Super Sedans, Modified Productions and Street Sedans - all in the no-holds-barred, smash-'em-up style of hi-octane thrills and spills racing that makes the South Burnett's Speedway such a crowd-pleaser. Gates will open at around 2:00pm and the first racers will slam their pedals to the metal at 4:00pm. As usual, a full bar and canteen facilities will be operating throughout and admission is $25 for adults, $15 for pensioners and students or $65 for a family pass (2 adults and up to 2 students). Children under 12 are admitted free.
What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Queensland Rail Bulls Masters Cricket Match - Murgon
The Queensland Rail Bulls Masters are paying a flying visit to the South Burnett this weekend and they'll be playing a cricket match at the Murgon Sporting Complex in Macalister Street, Murgon against a South Burnett Invitational XI at 2:30pm this afternoon (gates open at 10:00am). The match will be preceded by a children's coaching clinic between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Admission is $10 for adults and under-16s are free.
Toga Party - Kingaroy
The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy will be hosting a Toga Party from 8:00pm until late tonight. Admission is free if you arrive before 9:00pm, or $5 if you're late. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
