South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
6th Annual Kingaroy Swap Meet
The Kingaroy and District Machinery Club will be holding its Sixth Annual Swap Meet at the club's grounds in Geoff Raph Drive near Kingaroy Airport from 6:00am this morning through until around 2:00pm this afternoon. The Swap Meet offers the opportunity to buy and sell all manner of had-to-get parts, tools and bits and pieces of machinery, and if you're into vintage tractors, trucks or steam engines it's heaven on a stick. Stall sites (10m x 6m) are just $10 with set-up on Friday, and overnight camping is available for $10 per site for stallholders who want to stay over. There'll also be food and drinks available on Friday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, and again today from 5:00am to 1:00pm. Admission today is just $5 per head (U16s are free) and if it's anything like the club's previous Swap Meets, expect big crowds and lots of stands. To book a stall, contact Janet on 0438-325-472.
Christmas Craft Fair - Blackbutt
The second (and final) day of a two-day Craft Fair will be held at Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:00am to 1:00pm today. The Fair will offer a huge range of craft items including jewellery, felt items, woodwork, dolls, baby clothes, hair pieces, magnet gift sets, jams, pickles and much more - just perfect for early Christmas shopping! - and food and drink will be available in the Hall all day as well. There'll also be live music from the Sempf Family after 5:30pm, and a BBQ serving up hot treats. Everyone is welcome!
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for their regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am and continuing on until noon. Back To Wooroolin Day
Wooroolin will be holding a special Back To Wooroolin Day today to celebrate the opening of a time capsule from 1972. The day will kick off with the monthly Wooroolin Community Markets that will start at 7:00am and run until noon with stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts. The Time Capsule will be opened at the nearby Wooroolin Hall around 10:00am. There'll also be a bus retracing the old 1972 school bus route operating, and you can book a seat on it or find out more by phoning Noel on 0427-642-262. Everyone is welcome!
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Mega Bowls & Pig On A Spit Night - Proston
Proston State School's P&C will be holding their annual Mega Bowls fundraiser this afternoon and evening at the Proston Bowls Club in Murphy Way, Proston. The action will kick off at 5:00pm with a barefoot bowls competition between teams of 4 players for great prizes ($20 per team nomination fee). This will be followed at 5:30pm with a Mega Pig On A Spit BBQ Dinner offering a choice of roast pork, steak or sausages plus salads, a bread roll and desserts for just $15 per adult or $10 per child. A giant multi-draw raffle will start being drawn at 7:00pm (only $1 a ticket) and this will be followed at 7:30pm with an auction offering 40 different lots. A cash bar will also be operating throughout the evening, and children can amuse themselves with board games in the clubhouse while adults engage in some high-powered bidding. The Mega Bowls Night is always a big event in Proston - as well as as fun night out - and everyone is welcome!
Kumbia Community Markets
The monthly Kumbia Community Markets will be running at Kumbia Hall in Bell Street, Kumbia from 7:00am to around noon this morning (set-up is from 6:00am). Kingaroy Men's Shed
The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Yarraman Horse Ride
The annual 25km Yarraman Horse Ride will depart from the Yarraman Showgrounds on the New England Highway at 8:00am this morning for a guided ride around the Yarraman district. Riders need to BYO horse(s) and tack, and because this year's ride is limited to 150 riders, pre-booking a place (at $40 per adult, $25 per child or $110 for a family of four) is essential. The Ride will be preceded by a pre-ride talk at 7:00am and a BBQ lunch and drinks will be on sale during the ride. Tonight there'll also be a $25 per person spit roast dinner available at the Showgrounds, along with a bar and live music. The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Railway Parkrun - Proston
The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning as part of today's Wooroolin celebrations (see entry elsewhere on this page). The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Seussical The Musical Auditions
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be holding its second audition session for their March 2023 production of "Seussical The Musical" from 1:00pm to 2:30pm this afternoon in the the Dance Room (S3) of Kingaroy State High School (enter via the Markwell Street bus turnaround area). The Society is seeking people of all ages and experience levels for front and backstage roles in this production. You can read more about this show on our website. Solar Printmaking Workshop - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) will be running a Solar Printmaking Workshop from 9:30am to 4:00pm today in the 1914 Council Chambers at the Gallery's rear. The workshop will be led by Brisbane artist Belinda Sinclair - who has many works demonstrating this technique on display in this month's exhibition - and the $75 course fee includes all materials as well as tuition. South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway will roar back into life at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy tonight with its second meeting of the season - the annual Spring Spectacular - featuring Super Sedans, Street Stocks, Junior Sedans, Modlites, Microsprints and the National 4's. There'll also be canteen facilities operating onsite, and campsites are available in the Showgrounds if you want to stay over. Gates will open at 2:00pm, racing will start at 4:00pm and the excitement will continue until around 10:30pm tonight. Admission is $30 for adults, $15 for students (with ID) and aged or disability pensioners or $75 for a family of two adults and two students (children 12 and under are free). Everyone is welcome!
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. The Phat Wag Opening - Murgon
The Phat Wag will be opening their new shop at 15230 Bunya Highway in Murgon between 10:00am and 3:00pm today. The Phat Wag raises and sells Wagyu beef and at today's opening you can try it out. Open Garden - Goodger
Bill and Sandra Steffensen will be holding an Open Garden at their home at 391 Haly Creek Road in Goodger from 9:30am to 3:30pm today as a fundraiser for the Leukaemia Foundation. Apart from a wonderful garden display of roses, ornamentals, fruit trees and raised veggie beds, the event will also offer morning teas and light lunches prepared by Kumbia QCWA, and a plant and craft stall. No dogs are allowed and since the garden has water features, children need to be supervised. Admission is $5 and everyone is welcome!

The Kilkivan Bush Camping and Caravan Park at 577 Rossmore Road, Kilkivan will be hosting the second day of a two-day Rock & Roll dance weekend today. The event will feature rock and roll, rockabilly and swing dance classes during the day and a night-time dance featuring two live bands from 6:00pm to 11:00pm on a smooth concrete undercover dance floor. Saturday Cricket
The sixth round of the South Burnett's 2022-23 senior cricket competition will get under way at 12:30pm today when Nanango Purple play Wondai at the Alan Downie Sports Fields in Burnett Street, Nanango; Kingaroy Services Blue play Wooroolin Warriors at Taabinga State School; Murgon play Kingaroy Services Orange at the Murgon Sportsgrounds; and Tingoora Vikings play Nanango Yellow at Murgon State High School. Meanwhile, junior games will start a little earlier with Kingaroy playing Nanango at 8:00am at Kingaroy's Lyle Vidler Oval in the fifth round of the Stage 3 competition; and Kingaroy Wamuran Timbers playing Nanango at River Road Oval in the fourth round of Stage 2, also at 8:00am. And in the Gympie A Grade competition, Murgon Crusaders will play the Gympie Colts at Murgon Showgrounds while Wooroolin Warriors play the Gympie Harlequins at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy - both matches starting at 12:30pm. Spectators are very welcome at all games.
