The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society (SBMCS) is bringing a musical about the wild and wacky world of Dr Seuss to the Kingaroy Performing Arts Centre next year … and it’s looking for cast members!

“Seussical The Musical” is based on characters made famous in several well-known Dr Seuss children’s books, including “Horton Hears A Who”, “Gertrude McFuzz” and “Horton Hatches The Egg”.

The show opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on November 30, 2000, and ran for a year before embarking on two national tours across the USA in 2002 and 2003.

The Broadway production was nominated for a Tony Award and three Drama Desk Awards.

Since then, “Seussical The Musical” has been performed in London’s West End and in South Africa, and has become a staple in playhouses all around the world.

The SBMCS’s production will be directed by Craig Reiger, with Sue Dowideit-Reiger as assistant director and Julee-Anne Bell as musical director.

Auditions will be held this Sunday (November 6) and the following Saturday and Sunday (November 12-13) at Kingaroy State High School’s Dance Room.

A final cast list is expected to be announced on November 21, and rehearsals will start on January 7 for performances next March.

Craig told southburnett.com.au the society was hoping to draw cast members of all ages and abilities, as well as volunteers who would like to help with set design, costumes and other back stage activities.

The SBMCS has prepared a 16-page guide to the production which outlines all the key dates, the main roles and their requirements, what cast members can expect if selected for the production, and contact information.
