South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Dinner Under The Stars - Bunya Mountains
The 2nd annual Bunya Mountains Dinner Under The Stars will be held at the Dandabah Day Use Area in the Bunya Mountains National Park from 4:30pm onwards tonight. For $95 per head, guests can enjoy a delicious three course dinner prepared by celebrity chef Matt Golinski, music by Ryza, a Welcome To Country, guest speakers and live and silent auctions. The dinner is being organised by the Bunya Mountains Community Association as a fundraiser for a planned Bunya Mountains Community Centre and it is jointly sponsored by the South Burnett and Western Downs Regional Councils, Stanwell, Kingaroy Body Works and The Bunyas Tavern. Tickets can be booked by phoning 0404-040-003 but be quick - last year this event was booked out a week beforehand.
Linville Heritage And Arts Festival
The first day of the 3rd annual Linville Heritage And Arts Festival will be held in Linville today to celebrate 112 years since the first train arrived at the former timber town. Today the Festival will kick off with a free Bush Poets Community Breakfast at Linville Hall from 7:00am to 8:00am. This will be followed by morning teas and live music from Buzz Talay at the nearby Linville Store and Cafe between 10:00am and noon; and dinners at the Linville Hotel from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. During the day (9:00am to 4:00pm) there'll also be lots of activities in the town including a Bush Poetry Competition at Linville Hall; Chainsaw Art; the awarding of the Linville Art Prize; Whip Cracking and Camp Oven Cooking demonstrations; a Children's Petting Zoo; live music with the Linville County Convicts, Corn Liquor and a Great Aussie BBQ at the Linville Hotel; a Heritage Fashion Parade in Linville Hall; and a self-guided history walk for visitors that will be available throughout both days. This evening, there'll also be a paid concert by the Angel Strings Chamber Orchestra Quartet (tickets can be booked online). Quickstep Down Jazz Lane - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Community Orchestra will be presenting their "Quickstep Down Jazz Lane" concert at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 6:30pm to 9:30pm this evening. As the name implies, the concert will focus on swing and jazz classics designed to get your dancing shoes working. A licensed bar will be open for drinks and there's also an optional $15 supper box available that you can order when you book tickets, which are $25 for adults or $15 for concessions and need to be booked online
Kingaroy Men's Shed
The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 9:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Murgon Men's Shed Garage Sale
The Murgon Men's Shed will be running their popular annual Garage Sale at their premises at 75 Macalister Street, Murgon from 6:00am this morning. The sale offers all sorts of goodies at bargain prices, and it's a great place to pick up bargains and locate hard-to-find items. People who'd like to donate goods for the garage sale can phone 0400-028-088 or 0407-409-335 to arrange a pick-up, and proceeds of today's sale will be used to fund Men's Shed projects.
Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Kingaroy Friendship Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, food stalls, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! Council Furniture Cent Sale - Nanango
The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding a Cent Sale of used furniture and equipment at their depot in Dalby Street, Nanango this morning. Gates will open at 9:00am and the sale will start at 10:00am. The sale is aimed at community groups who'd like to acquire additional furniture for their club rooms or offices, and all groups will receive 100 tickets each - but to attend you'll need to register beforehand on Eventbrite.
Byte Nite At The Pool - Murgon
South Burnett PCYC's popular "Byte Nite @ The Pool" will be running at the Wondai Swimming Pool in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 4:00pm to 7:00pm this evening. It's a free night of fun, games and dinner for up to 80 people hosted by local volunteers, and free buses will be running from Goomeri, Cherbourg and Murgon. Everyone is welcome but children under 12 must be accompanied by a supervising adult, and there's a maximum of four under-12s per adult. Open Garden - Brooklands
Greg and Joy Patch will be holding an Open Garden at their home at 86 Boldery Road in Brooklands from 8:30am to 3:00pm today as a fundraiser for the Leukaemia Foundation. The Cooyar Hotel on the New England Highway at Cooyar will be running a pig on a spit night with live music with Allan Gumm from 3:00pm (when the music kicks off in the Outback Bar) until late tonight. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Saturday Cricket
The sixth round of the South Burnett's 2022-23 senior cricket competition will get under way at 12:30pm today when Nanango Yellow play the Wooroolin Warriors at the Alan Downie Sports Fields in Burnett Street, Nanango; Nanango Purple play Tingoora Vikings at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon; Murgon play Wondai at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the highway north of Wondai's CBD; and Kingaroy Services Blue play Kingaroy Services Orange at Taabinga State School in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy. Meanwhile, junior games will start a little earlier with Kingaroy playing Nanango at 8:00am at Taabinga State School in the sixth round of the Stage 3 competition; and Kingaroy Wamuran Timbers playing Kingaroy Pineview Westlink at the River Road, Kingaroy oval in the fifth round of Stage 2, also starting at 8:00am. And in the Gympie A Grade competition, Murgon Crusaders will play the Gympie Royals at Murgon Showgrounds while Wooroolin Warriors play Gympie Valleys at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy - both matches starting at 12:30pm. Spectators are very welcome at all games.
