International Talk Like A Pirate Day
Avast, seadogs! Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, a holiday created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy) of Albany in Oregon USA, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. If you want to take part, you can greet people with "Ahoy, matey!" instead of "Hi!". And if you often pause when you talk, consider changing your pauses to "Arrrrs" instead of "Errrrs" to keep in tune with the day's spirit. If you have a "dress down Friday" at your workplace, today is also a really good day to dress down (right down) with pirate gear. And it's one of the only times of the year when it's socially acceptable to call someone a "scurvy dog" or a suggest they "swab out the scuppers", or perhaps hold a pirate party where you make your guests walk the plank.
