Kingaroy-Taabinga Rotary Club Bookarama - Kingaroy
Fancy a ripper read? The Kingaroy-Taabinga Rotary Club will be holding their annual Bookarama at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am this morning through until around 4:00pm this afternoon (and also tomorrow from 9:00am until 12:00 noon). There'll be thousands of great books on sale at bargain prices across all categories, along with a great Lucky Door prize, a raffle and a sausage sizzle if you get peckish while you browse the aisles. All proceeds of today's event will go to aid Rotary's outstanding community work - both here in the South Burnett and internationally - and if you love books, this is something you really shouldn't miss. Elsie & Norm's Macbeth - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be staging the final performance of their latest production "Elsie And Norm's Macbeth" at the Nanango Opera House at the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango at 7:00pm this evening (performance starts at 7:30pm sharp). The new play is a comedy in two acts by British playwright John Wood about the hilarious misadventures of an elderly couple, Elsie and Norm, who decide to share some “culture” with their neighbours by staging Shakespeare’s “Scottish play” in their lounge room, with some updates to make it snappier. Tonight's performance is a $25-per-head Wine & Cheese Night. Tickets can be obtained from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre at the Henry Street Energy Museum or by phoning (07) 4171-0100. Abbeywood School Centenary - Proston
Abbeywood School will be celebrating its Centenary today, and all past students, teachers and anyone who has a connection with the school is very welcome to attend. The school was established by some of the district's original pioneers and celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1964 before it officially closed on April 24, 1972. Since then it has been a private residence, so today's celebrations will be held at the Proston Community Hall in Rodney Street, Proston (but there'll be bus trips out to the school). Visitors are welcome along for a morning and afternoon tea and a BBQ lunch, but for catering purposes an RSVP to Albert on (07) 4127-7250 or Gloria on (07) 4168-9157 would be greatly appreciated. There'll also be an invitation-only meal on offer in the evening for past students and teachers.
South Burnett Junior Soccer Grand Finals - Kingaroy
The Grand Finals of the South Burnett's 2014 Junior Soccer Competition will be played at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy this morning. The Cadets Grand Final between Total Building Solution Qld Bears and the Barambah Painting Contractor Bears will be played at 10:30am; the U12/13s Consolation Cup, between Kingaroy Accounting & Tax Redbacks and The Mad Gamer Panthers, will be played at 11:15am; and the Grand Final in the U12/13s competition, between King Air Redbacks and Hair Elegance Redbacks, will be played at 12:30pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Murgon Art Festival
The first full day of the annual Murgon Art Festival will be held at the South Burnett PCYC at 40 Macalister Street, Murgon from 8:30am to 5:00pm today. The Festival draws artists from all over the South Burnett and south-east Queensland, and many entries are for sale. The event is a joint fundraiser for the Murgon Show Society and the PCYC, and everyone is welcome!
Bloomin Beautiful Blackbutt Festival
The main day of the 2014 Bloomin Beautiful Blackbutt Festival - Blackbutt's annual town festival - will be held in and around Blackbutt today. This year's event will feature floral and produce displays; home and garden stalls; vintage machinery and fire brigade displays; photography, art and sculpture competitions; a reptile show; quilting, embroidery, wool spinning, felting and jewellery exhibitions; roving entertainers; and a lot more running between 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Festival's six venues - the Blackbutt Showgrounds, Blackbutt Rail Head, Hart Street Library, Les Muller Park, Blackbutt's main street and the Blackbutt Hall. Free car parking and overnight camping is available at the Blackbutt Showgrounds. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. You can find out more on the Festival's website.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's monthly Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls. Clay Target Shooting Carnival - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Clay Target will be hosting the second day of their three-day 2014 Australian Clay Target Association Commonwealth Clay Target Carnival at their range on the Kingaroy-Cooyar Road in Kingaroy from 8:30am onwards today. This major event has previously been held in Perth and Darwin, and this will be the first time it's ever been held in Queensland. The Carnival will draw top trap shooters from all over Australia. Spectators are welcome and the club’s canteen will be operating throughout.
Spring In The Square - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy District Ministers Association will be hosting "Spring In The Square" (an afternoon tea and auction) in O'Neill Square at the junction of Kingaroy and Haly Streets, Kingaroy at 1:00pm this afternoon. The event is a fundraiser for school chaplaincy programs and there'll be sandwiches, cakes, slices, lollies, cold drinks, a coffee cart and a sausage sizzle on site. Everyone is welcome!
Nanango Men's Shed

Nanango Country Music Muster
The 2014 Nanango Country Music Muster will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from the 11th to the 14th of September this year, and today - the main day - the Muster will get underway at 9:00am with an Invited Artists Concert that will run right through until 11:00pm tonight. You can get in to attend today's concert for $30 (or $15 if you want to attend from 3:00pm onwards); or you can buy a 4-day pass to the entire event for $45 (young people aged 14 to 17 can get tickets for half price, and under-14s accompanied by an adult can get in for free). A bar and canteen will be running all day, and camping will also be available at the Showgrounds for between $6 and $8.50 per night - but a booking for any camp site is essential because the Muster usually packs the Showgrounds to capacity. Seafood Buffet - Murgon
Sakina's Seafood Buffet - which is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month - will be running at the Saleyard Cafe on Gayndah Road at Murgon at 6:30pm this evening. Orana Hilltop Markets - Kingaroy
The Orana Lutheran Complex at 24 MacDiarmid Street in Kingaroy will be holding their Orana Hilltop Markets from 7:00am to 12:00 noon this morning in the Complex's grounds. The markets will feature a wide range of stalls selling anything from local produce and beverages through to home decor items, clothing, giftware, gardening supplies and bric-a-brac - and today (for the first time) they'll also incorporate a Suitcase Rummage Sale. You can bring along a suitcase full of treasures to sell for a gold coin donation to Operation Christmas Child, or head along to check out what bargains you can find. Everyone is welcome! Beekeeping Club Open Day
Burnett Beekeeping Supplies premises at 806 River Road in Kingaroy will be holding an Open Day from 9:00am this morning for beekeepers and anyone interested in bee-keeping. The company, which manufactures timber supplies for beekeepers, will be running factory inspection tours in the morning. This will be followed at 12:00 noon by a sausage sizzle lunch, and then at 1:00pm by a meeting to look at forming a local beekeeping club. You can read more about today's get-together on our website.
Red Ants Presentation Day
The Kingaroy Red Ants will be holding their 2014 Presentation Day at their clubhouse at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon. Activities will kick off at 3:00pm with presentations at 4:00pm, followed by a BBQ dinner at 6:00pm. All club members and supporters are very welcome!
