Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Burnett Softball Have A Go & Sign-On Day - Nanango
The Burnett Softball Association will be running a "Have A Go Day" at the Burnett Softball Grounds at 18 Burnett Street, Nanango from 9:00am to 1:00pm today. Both beginners and experienced players of all ages are welcome. More details? Phone Karen on (0422) 204-661 or email her.
South Burnett Junior Soccer - U12/13s Semi-Finals
The semi-finals in the U12/13s age group of the South Burnett Junior Soccer competition will be played in Kingaroy today. At 10:30am, the King Air Redbacks take on Kingaroy Accounting & Tax Redbacks. At 11:45am, the Hair Elegance Redbacks will play the Mad Gamer Panthers. The winners of both games progress to next Saturday's Grand Final.
Music Trivia Night - Yarraman
The Yarraman P&C Association will be holding a Music Trivia Night at the Yarraman School Hall from 6:00pm until late tonight (the trivia starts at 7:00pm sharp). Play will be in teams of 4 or 6 at $10 per player, and there'll be a licensed bar, free nibbles and hot foods available, along with a supervised play area for children (so families can come along too). Austackle-Bluefin Freshwater Fishing Challenge - Lake Boondooma
The first round of the new Austackle-Bluefin Freshwater Fishing Challenge will be held at Lake Boondooma this weekend. The competition consists of 4 rounds plus a Grand Final, and will be held at the Boondooma, Mary River, BP and Paradise Dams between this weekend and March 2015, with the Grand Final at Bjelke-Petersen Dam on 18-19 April 2015. This weekend's competition will focus on bass, golden perch, saratogas and eel-tail catfish, and you can find out all the details on the competition's website.
Kingaroy Junior Cricket Club Sign-On Day

Wood Fired Spit Roast Buffet With Footsteps - Wondai
Here's someting different! The Wondai Hotel and Cellar in Haly Street, Wondai will be holding a Wood Fired Spit Roast Buffet from 6:00pm until late tonight with popular entertainers Footsteps supplying the music. Tickets for the dinner and show are just $22.50 per head, but numbers are limited so a booking is advisable. Big Blue Bus - Nanango and Kingaroy
Beyond Blue's Big Blue Bus will be visiting the South Burnett today to provide free information on mental health issues - in particular, how to reciognise and combat depression. The Big Blue Bus will be at the Nanango Markets this morning, then moving to Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy for a free lunchtime community barbecue between 12:30pm and 2:30pm. Art Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy
The Jumping Ant Arts group will be holding a series of arts activities and an exhibition opening at the 1913 Council Chambers and the Kingaroy Art Gallery from 10:00am to 3:00pm today. At the Kingaroy Art Gallery, participants in the recent, RADF-funded "Going Potty In The South Burnett" workshop will be exhibiting the results of their six days of coursework in a large pottery exhibition, which is mounted alongside the group's current exhibition "Life Matters". And in the 1913 Council Chambers, there'll be a number of "have a go" activities running throughout the day including rug making, weaving, charcoal drawing, salt & silk painting and photography. There'll also be demonstrations of pastel drawing and making hand-made prints, along with talks by award-winning artist Lee Porter. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. More detals? The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street from 8:00am to around mid-day today. Dance - Tablelands Hall
A dance (and dance lessons, if you need them) will be held at Tablelands Hall from 6:30pm until late tonight (supper is served at 6:30pm; dancing will follow afterwards). The dance will feature old time and new vogue numbers and admission includes the supper. Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $2.50 for anyone else. Everyone is welcome!
Elsie & Norm's Macbeth - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be staging the second performance of their latest production "Elsie And Norm's Macbeth" at the Nanango Opera House at the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango at 7:00pm this evening (performance starts at 7:30pm sharp). The new play is a comedy in two acts by British playwright John Wood about the hilarious misadventures of an elderly couple, Elsie and Norm, who decide to share some “culture” with their neighbours by staging Shakespeare’s “Scottish play” in their lounge room, with some updates to make it snappier. Tonight's performance is a Supper Night and tickets are $20 for adults or $15 concessions. Other performances will be held at the same time and venue next Friday, September 12 before the season wraps up with a final $25-per-head Wine & Cheese Night on Saturday, September 13. Tickets can be obtained from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre at the Henry Street Energy Museum or by phoning (07) 4171-0100. Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by a local band and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a big Lucky Door draw.
