Fathers Day
Today is the first Sunday in September: Fathers Day, the counterpoint to Mothers Day and probably the one time of the year that thoughtful children make their Dad breakfast in bed, get him his Ipad so he can read the Sunday news and then stay well out of his hair for at least an hour or two (especially if he was out celebrating last night). If you want to give your Dad a special treat today there are several fun things happening around our region you can take him along to - and there's sure to be something to please him no matter what his interests. Here's what they are:
South Burnett Aviculture Society Meeting - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Aviculture Society - which focusses on the care and breeding of birds - will be holding their first Sunday of the month meeting at their club house inside the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 2:00pm this afternoon. Pixie Jenkins and Glenn Jones - Nanango
Entertainers Pixie Jenkins and Glenn Jones will be performing in a Fathers Day concert at Taras Hall next to Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 2:00pm to 5:00pm this afternoon. Admission is $15.
Kilkivan Sunday Markets
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. Fathers Day BBQ Lunch - Yarraman
A Fathers Day BBQ Lunch will be held at the BBQ area in Yarraman's Errol Munt Park from 11:30am onwards today. Fathers over 45 can get a great BBQ lunch for free, and the cost for other family members (or fathers aged under 45) is just $5 per head. You're also welcome to BYO liquid refreshments if you like, and everyone is welcome. However - for catering purposes - you'll need to RSVP if you plan on coming. Father's Day Buffet - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be holding another a special Father's Day Buffet from 12:00pm to 2:00pm today. The buffett features a selection of hot dishes, roast meats, salads, as well as sweets and tea of coffee, and the cost is $20.00 per person for a really great feed (BYO). Lazy Sunday At The Wondai
The Wondai Hotel & Cellar will be holding a special "Lazy Sunday" for Fathers Day all day today, kicking off with Sunday breakfasts in the hotel's dining room at 9:00am, followed at 12:00 noon with lunch and live music by Vasty and Grant. Then in the evening, you can kick back in the lounge around 5:00pm and relax with Queensland Weekend on the big screen. Today Queensland Weekend will be running their South Burnett Pubs special, and you can expect to see The Wondai in it.
Sunday Afternoon Poker - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy RSL in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy will be hosting Sunday afternoon poker games today. Registration starts at 2:00pm and the first cards are dealt at 2:30pm. There are $150 in prizes to be won and no fees to play. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Timbertown Woodworkers Meeting - Blackbutt
The Timbertown Woodworkers group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:00am until around 12:00pm today. Country Music Afternoon - Yarraman
A Country Music Arvo will be held at the Yarraman Community Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman at 1:00pm today. These regular monthly music get-togethers usually feature both guest and walk-up artists, and all funds raised are donated to worthy causes. Everyone is welcome! Sunday Afternoon Darts - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Darts Association will be holding their regular Sunday afternoon Pot Luck Doubles darts competitions from 11:00am to 4:00pm at their premises at Shed 1, 18 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. A $10 playing fee applies, but that includes a great BBQ lunch. New players are always welcome - the club caters for all skill levels from novice to expert - and you can obtain more details by phoning Kurt on (0403) 400-771 (after 5:00pm) or Bianca on (0431) 954-023. Note: Pot Luck Doubles may not run on every Sunday due to other competitions, so call first to check if you really, really want to play PLD today.
