Digital Retune - South Burnett
Most people living in the South Burnett will need to retune their digital TVs or set-top boxes from today onwards because some digital TV channels will be changing their frequency. Residents in Murgon, Cherbourg and Goomeri had to do their TV retuning on May 28. Tests of the new frequencies have been occurring over the last week - usually in the early hours of the morning - which has caused some outages for night-owls, but these should all be over after today.

South Burnett PCYC Excursion Day - Murgon

Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show & Shine
The first day of the three-day Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (right next to the Maidenwell Hotel) all day today. This popular event - which is run by the South Burnett Gas Guzzlers to support local charities - is a campout weekend featuring live music; a big Show'n'Shine focussing on hot rods, street machines and pre-1975 customs; and vintage and veteran caravans. Today's activities will largely focus on setting up camp (for guests spending the full weekend), meeting the neighbours and getting acquainted - the main public day is tomorrow - but there'll be some entertainment at the hotel and in the grounds this afternoon and evening (including a gold coin donation welcome BBQ and drinks, bench session and games) plus lots of great cars to inspect. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). The main public day of the three-day Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (right next to the Maidenwell Hotel) all day today. Reserve Forces Day - Wondai
Today is Reserve Forces Day, which commemorates the two million-plus Australian men and women who've served in the ranks of the Army, Navy and Air Force Reserve since 1948 and also recalls the many thousands who served in the militia and other volunteer formations in the years prior to that. Wondai will be marking the event with a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph outside the former Wondai Shire Council chambers in Mackenzie Street at 10:00am, and then a parade which will march along Pring and Bramston Streets into Mackenzie Street, and then to Coronation Park at 11:00am. The Parade is open to anyone who served in the CMF or in the reserves of any of the three Service Arms at any time, as well as any Regulars or Nasho’s (naturally, spectators are encouraged to come along and wave the flag to show their support). After this there will be a Recognition Service in Coronation Park, before the event concludes with a Beating Retreat ceremony held on the roadway fronting the Cenotaph. Everyone will then be invited to the nearby Wondai Diggers Club for refreshments. Note: Wondai is the smallest centre in Australia to hold a Reserve Forces Day parade, but it's always well supported. After a one week break for the winter school vacation, Round 11 of the South Burnett's 2014 rugby league season will resume at Stags Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango's CBD this afternoon - and it'll be a double header. At 3:30pm, the Kingaroy Red Ants will play the Murgon Mustangs in what promises to be a very interesting match between two very good teams. And then at 5:30pm, the so far unbeaten Cherbourg Hornets will take on the Nanango Stags, with the Stags no doubt keen to perform well in front of their home crowd. BGA Agriservices, the University of Queensland, GRDC and DAFF will be jointly hosting a South Burnett Soil Nutrition Forum at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street from 9:00am to 1:00pm this morning. The forum will be addressed by Ian Crosthwaite from BGA Agriservices, Chris Dowling from Back Paddock Company, Mike Bell from QAAFI and Nikki Seymour from DAFF and will look at nutrient removals, budgets and soil testing; nitrogen replacement from legumes and fertilisers; fertiliser placement strategies; organic fertilisers; nutrient management for different farming sequences; current grower strategies; and the results of the Weller trial. Activities will get underway at 11:00am with the U14s, and they'll be followed by the U16s at 12:00 noon. After this - at 1:30pm - the Wondai Wolves will play the Nanango Stags in the seniors clash in what should be a very good game, given both teams' performances in recent weeks. The thirteenth round of the South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League will be held in Murgon and Kingaroy this afternoon. In Murgon - what promises to be an exciting top-of-the-table clash between this season's two leading sides - home team Barambah will take on the Nanango Panthers at the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street, with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, followed by Women's Division at 3:30pm and the 1st Division clash at 5:00pm. The Wondai-Proston RLFC will be holding their annual Mini-Mods Carnival at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD today. More than 600 U7s, U8s, U10s and U12s players from all across the Wide Bay region will be coming to Wondai with their families in tow to play Mini Mod matches - an introductory form of rugby league, with modified rules, which emphasises skill development and having fun. Red Boot Ride - South Burnett
The South Burnett's second annual Red Boot Ride - to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House - will be held today. Motorcycle riders can register outside Mark Smith's Menswear in Lamb Street from 8:30am. Cost is $25 per bike (pillion passengers are free), and the ride is open to all makes of bikes. The ride will get underway at 9:30am and then head to Nanango, Maidenwell, Cooyar, Maclagan, Kaimkillenbun, Bunya Mountains, Kumbia, Kingaroy and then back to Murgon. Lunch will be held at Elz Bistro at Dandabah (cost $6 to be paid at the venue - for every meal purchased, $1 will be donated back to the fundraiser). Careflight Enduro Loops Challenge - Boondooma
Manar Park at Boondooma will be holding the second (and final) day of their Careflight Enduro Loops Challenge today as a fundraiser for the RACQ Careflight Helicopter Rescue Service. Today the Park will be running Family and Novice Enduro Challenges for motorcycles and quad bikes. The Challenge is a non-competitive, social event to allow riders to test their ability in the company of like-minded people, and accommodation is also available on-site if you want to camp out. Kingaroy State High School's annual Flair Concert will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon St, Kingaroy from 6:30pm this evening (the show starts at 7:00pm and usually finishes arpound 9:00pm). This year's program includes talented solo singers, dancing, instrumental and comedy acts, and the Kingaroy State High School Stage Band and Men's Choir.
